I am hoping that someone can help me. I am trying to find the record of a fire at my grandfathers store in Far Rockaway, NY (I am asking here because the resources for Far Rockaway, Queens would be similar in Manhattan and Brooklyn AND the Queens list is not active like both of you two are) Since the only fact that I know is that the store was operational in 1930 (1930 census has my grandfather listed as an entrepreneur. My Mom was born in 1930 and remembers hearing about the fire when she was a young girl so I am deducing that it happened between 1930-1943. I just tried to call the local number for the Far Rockaway fire station to ask if records are still in existence for that time period but since they are both volunteer stations, no one was there to answer the phone. There was a local Rockaway paper during that time period, The Rockaway wave but I want to wait until I can narrow the time frame before I search papers.
