    1. Re: [NYC-ROOTS] Looking for the Street Name
    2. Elizabeth, You are totally correct! I think that is what happened to my family. I took the great suggestion of Ted Schmitz and looked through all of the 2nd enumeration for the 20 WD, ED 15, but couldn't find them! I guess they flew the coop. I will now check other 2nd enums around the area. My heartfelt thanks to all that gave me their help. Kathleen~CT. From: "knowltonew@earthlink.net" <knowltonew@earthlink.net> Subject: [NYC-ROOTS] House numbers >I am hoping someone will be able to help me with this. On the 1870 census for Manhattan, all I have is... Ward # - 20 Enumeration District # - 15 House # - 26 Any one have the secret formula to figure it out? I'll even take the 'area' for an answer. Thanks so much. Kathleen~CT.< And, Newbies, remember that "House #" is not really the number of the house but only the 26th house the enumerator came to in his section. The suggestion to go to the 2nd enumeration is a good one. However, people moved so often from one rented place to another that a January 1871 location does not guarantee that the family was there the June before. Elizabet
