    1. Re: [NYC-ROOTS] Looking for NY marriages between 1850-1853
    2. Hi, Velma, I am still unsure from what you write before if the obituaries say they lived in New York CITY. So many people who live elsewhere use the term "New York" to mean the state just as likely as the city. I am sure they were still making buckets in NYC at that time, but it does sound as if they were not in a city from everything you gave us. You do not state specifically if you looked at city directories for NYC for 1851-1855 [I would look that far because of age of eldest child's birth in Ohio]. If you did look at them, what did you find? IF they lived in NYC, finding William on the city directory is the best chance you have of finding where they lived, which would lead you to the church, which would lead you to the marriage. Did I mention German newspapers in NYC of that period that might list the marriage also? I know I seem disinterested in the family in Germany, but I think those few years where you have not located them might give you the clue you need. Doesn't this look like Henriette though? Name: Henriette Stahl Arrival Date: 8 May 1848 Age: 23 Port of Arrival: New York Port of Departure: Bremen Place of Origin: Deutschland Ship: Emma Family Identification: 889103 Microfilm Serial Number: M237 Microfilm Roll Number: 71 Elizabeth >I am very satisfied that I have researched the family in America. I just know nothing about them when they were in Germany. The information for the NYC reference came from the two obituaries. I had thought originally that they went directly to Ohio. Altho the two obituaries differ in many places they both say that they lived for several (2 o3) years in NY. Some of the things that I have for the American time period. 1. All of the census records - these give different places such as Prussia and Nassau and I have researched how that might have changed. 2. William shows as a bucketmaker (Ohio) in the first census that I have for him. That sounds more like farming area to me. Not too long after that he opened a shop (Ohio(. I have no idea of what he did in NYC.
