Try fultonhistory.com that is a site with thousands of old NY State and some other states newspapers. Be sure to check best way to use as there are some 5,000 articles when I just put in the name. When handwritten in cursive the number "2" can be mis-transcribed to "5" Sharon, since you are new to researching in the USA, today NYC is comprised of 5 counties, but in 1862-1865 it was predominantly one, New York County. However, Kings County aka Brooklyn, which is today part of NY City, was a separate city then. If he died in New York City, you can look on Family Search for free. There were no death certs in 1862 but there were death records kept in ledger books. FS has brief summaries of each of these ledger book death records. Don't forget wildcard spellings such as 'G*rd*n'. In a quick look, I did not see him in 1862 but it's worth checking a few years each side. You can also search the 1860 US census for free on Family Search. It's a common name unfortunately, but you do have some info so worth looking. If you have an international Ancestry membership, you can search there too tho not for the death. Good luck. Is it possible that they are buried at Mt Olivet but the headstone at Calvary is just a memorial? A few things to note: The Calvary headstone lists William, Louisa and their grandson, Walter (and no one else). this seems odd to me.William died in 1940, Louisa in 1943 and Walter in 1942, so it was probably erected after Louisa died in 1943. The Famillysearch record for his wife, my great grandmother Louisa Murray LEBRIGHT, does not specify a place of burial. Calvary is a Catholic cematary. The "original" religion of my German LEBRECHT/LEBRIGHTs isn't clear , but Louisa most definitely not Catholic. She was born in England and followed the Episcopalian religion in America. I do not have a copy of the actual death certificate for William, but it seems odd that the cemetery name would be transcribed incorrectly. Any insight appreciated. Lisa
I would call the cemeteries and ask. Most of the time they will give that information over the phone.
