Apologies if everyone knows this already but it's new to me. There is an amazing blog with photos and stories about historic NYC. It's called Ephemeral New York and you can spend hours browsing old posts as well as the latest. Everything from old street lamps, buildings, wonderful genre paintings of street scenes of daily life and lots of photos. Check it out if you haven't already. Google 'Ephemeral New York' or see if this link goes thru on Rootsweb. Enjoy!--Virginia https://ephemeralnewyork.wordpress.com
In an old house that was being torn down in Glen, NY - I found a whole pile of cards (Christmas/Get Well etc) & 2 pictures. All around the years 1951 - 1952 One of, Paul Frigin the third - age 4 mos. - Christmas 1951, another one is a women or teen named Marian Trumbull. A worn out letter to "Dear Mom Olyer" from Middleville, NY - Someone from 3714 E. 53rd. st., Kansas City, MO wrote to Gertrude Olyer of Stratford, NY has daughter Ruthie. Mrs. Gertrude B. Olyer of Stratford, NY (I believe the "B" in her name stands for Boyle. A lot of get well cards for John Boyle who was in Little Falls Hospital in 1952 - one from Sonny, Gene & Patty Stock. Names in some of the cards - Hazel & John Brown, cousins Bob & Mary Owens, Charles Bette, Mark from 423 Buffalo St., Fulton, - Cards from Stratford & Herkimer & many, many names. Before I throw this pile out I would love to send it to someone who could make use of them. What a waste to toss them out June

Thank you so much for sending this film clip, I had a good cry and you will wonder why, we had three brothers who went to NYC from London at exactly that time, one married lost both legs and died 1921, one worked as a private chaffeur, on the trolley buses and on the subway he died 1918 and one worked on the subway and returned home. This film covered exactly the scenario they were in and sadly there is lot more to this tale than I can put here concerning the family of the one who lost both legs perhaps I can find a small film clip about the next few years. Hi Lisa and everyone else To find the record and/or certificate that you want from the Family history library in your area the best way that I can explain things are as follows You need to have your certificate # and film # before proceeding and if you are unfamiliar with how to find those, ask the group as that is a different process. I am just covering how to see if a digitilized film os available at your local FHC 1- log onto familysearch, 2- go to catalog 3- there is a place about 1/2 way down that says Film/Fiche Number. 4- Click that and then put the film # in and hit search. 5- When the film name comes up I click the film name. 6- Once that page opens up scroll down until you see the film #. 7- Look at the film info looking for a camera icon on the far right side 8- If you see a small key icon key above the camera on the far right side of the film info, that key means that you can only view the film at a FHC. If there is no key then you can view at home. 9- You can download the cert to a thumb drive or print for free. Gail Is there a way to know which ones have been digitized? I looked through familysearch a bit yesterday and it didn't appear that any of the Lebrecht/Lebrights I found had been digitized. (There wasn't a little camera in the results to indicate a photo.) I am planning on going to my local FHC for a bit tomorrow. Gail,This is really wonderful and how great that they added sound. Wish I could identify all the buildings! I did get a laugh out of the boys trying to get into the picture in several places. As the mother of sons, I have to say boys never change (I'm happy to say!). And what a lot of chic women. NYC--always the fashion capital of America.
