    2. Lori McBride-Nichols
    3. Hi Sharon, May I ask how you obtained the coroner's inquest? I haven't had any luck obtaining the coroner's inquest for my great grandfather's death in 1901. I do however, have the death certificate that does indicate an inquest was going to be done. (Bronx, btw) Thanks, Lori ________________________________ From: Sharon Suckow <225slds@gmail.com> Sent: Sunday, July 8, 2018 12:57 PM To: NYBrooklyn-L@rootsweb.com; nyc-roots@rootsweb.com Subject: [NYC-ROOTS] Death certificate 1841 Donato (Donald) Urbani a child of 11 years died on Oct. 15, 1841. There was a coroner's inquest, which I have. I requested a death certificate and was informed there wasn't one. I would like to find his place of burial, any suggestions? Thank you. 3. Not sure if you are asking about New York (Manhattan only) or Brooklyn.  For NY, there would be no death cert as such in 1841.  There would have been a written record in ledger books. All those I have seen do list the cemetery but you never know. These are available online at the Mormons' Family History Centers. First, I'd do a very thorough search free online at familysearch.org  Try every version of the name you can imagine. Not sure when Brooklyn started keeping death records. I have found them in the 1850s but not looked earlier.  Also remember that Brooklyn was only a small part of Kings County in 1841 and other records could be held under another town's name, eg New Utrecht.  Good luck, VirginiaB On ‎Monday‎, ‎July‎ ‎09‎, ‎2018‎ ‎11‎:‎25‎:‎35‎ ‎AM, Mike McHenry <maurmike@gmail.com> wrote: Given the early date I would try churchyard  cemeteries in the area. 3. Sharon, Which organization did you contact to request the death certificate? Do you know where he died? It's possible that he died in another county, which would mean that the death certificate would be help by a different organization. 3. I tried findagrave.com but didn't find a match. However, there are a few URBANIs buried in Cypress Hills in Brooklyn. Can't hurt to contact them to see if he is buried there. There is also an URBANI in Old Saint Raymond's cemetary in the Bronx (although buried in 1957) and one buried at Saint John Cemetary in Queens (also buried in the 1950's). If you know what religion the family was, you could try to find the nearest church of that denomination. I assume the inquest has the family's address on it. 1. [NYC] Obituaries on Kluges in Brooklyn Daily Eagle
    2. Looking for Obits on my great grandparents Hermann and Clara Kluge from the Brooklyn Daily Eagle or Brooklyn Eagle. I've read what was in the N.Y. Times entry for them already and it just gave date of death and day of funeral and burial. Both emigrated from Germany around 1865/66. Their information is as follows: Hermann Kluge: died August 13, 1901; 58 years old; buried in Holy Cross Cemetery Brooklyn. Residence: 8710 Fifth Ave., Bayridge area, Brooklyn. Clara Kluge: died December 29, 1914; 74 years old; buried in Holy Cross Cemetery Brooklyn. Residence: same as Hermann's above. I live in southern Virginia. I'm willing to pay copy and mailing costs. Thanks, Jack Smith

    3. Thanks for the opinions in favor of East St. So far, I have yet to find any of these people in either city directories or the 1910 Census. I've checked the 1909 but not yet the 1910 directory, and can't find any of them y searching the census - I haven't tried paging through the EDs yet. I'm still working on thrdf When I showed my grandmother this record, years ago, she said, "Oh, he [her dad] must have misunderstood the question. He says he's going to join his mother, but his mother was in Italy." It's only on revisiting it looking for something else that I realize how foolish it was to take that at face value and that I should be really following up on whether his mother ever really was in NY. Which is my current quest. If anyone's looking for a challenge, I'd love some help finding any of the following on the 1910 Census: Nicola Lanzillotto (1884-1961) Carmine "Charlies" Lanzillotto (1894-1969) Apollonia "Bella" Soranno (Lanzillotto) (1858-1925) Francesco Soranno Giuseppe Fazio Kathleen On Wed, Jun 27, 2018 at 2:02 PM, Lisa Thompson <pupsnpaper@gmail.com> wrote: > I zoomed in on my large monitor and it looks like East to me, too. > > Lisa > > On Wed, Jun 27, 2018 at 9:19 AM Lynne Kemp <dent_48@hotmail.com> wrote: > > > Kathleen, I think it says East St. Did you check the online NY > > directories for that year to confirm? > > > > > > Sent from Outlook<http://aka.ms/weboutlook> > > > > ________________________________ > > From: Kathleen Scarlett O'Hara Naylor <kathleen.scarlett.ohara@gmail.com > > > > Sent: June 26, 2018 9:11 PM > > To: NYC-ROOTS@rootsweb.com > > Subject: [NYC-ROOTS] Help with address > > > > This is a link to the second page of my great-grandfather's 1909 > passenger > > manifest. 3. I zoomed in on my large monitor and it looks like East to me, too. 3. Kathleen, It's tough to read, I agree! To me it looks like "East St." One thought I had is that the document shows the relationship to the person that they are going to. Do you know who that person is? If so, you can combine this document with the city directories to confirm the address. Also, if you use Steve Morse's "Unified Census ED Finder," you might find that you can locate the associated 1910 Census that matches the person named in the passenger list (assuming they didn't move prior to the census being enumerated). 1. Go here: https://www.stevemorse.org/census/unified.html?year=1910 2. At the top, change to "1910' 3. Select State = New York, County = New York; City = Manhattan; Street = East 4. It brings up three electoral districts that match, and from there you can review the associated census sheets. Perhaps you can find the cousin/brother mentioned in your passenger list!
