After locating a building, click "Show Additional Information" and data will be provided such as lot frontage, depth and area; year built; gross floor area; number of residential units; and whether it has been designated as a Landmark building. 1. [NYC-ROOTS] Michael Goldstein family of NYC prior to 1870
    2. Lilly Martin
    3. Hello, This is my report. I have alot more, but I wanted to start brief. Michael Goldstein came to NYC prior to, or during the Civil War (1861-1865). I believe he was employed during the War in NYC sewing US Army uniforms and this is where he met a fellow worker named Abraham Kallen. Abraham married Michael's sister Flora Goldstein in NYC about 1866-7. I do not have the marriage record for Abraham Kallen to Flora Goldstein. Michael Goldstein most likely married Minnie Levy, d/o Solomon, also in NYC prior to 1863. I also do not have that record. Both the Goldstein family and the Kallen family moved permanently to Chicago, IL prior to 1870 census. I need help and assistance finding more about these 2 families during the Civil War period in NYC, prior to their move to Chicago. I do not have passenger records for either of these families. The immigrants would be: Michael Goldstein, Flora Goldstein, Minnie Levy, Abraham Kallen. I estimate their arrival to be 1860-1866. I do not have marriage records for Michael or Abraham. They were married in NYC. The children which were born in NYC were: Meyer Goldstein b. 1863 Annie Goldstein b. 1864 Mary Goldstein b. 1865 Rachel Kallen b. 1868 Additonal problem: that the ORIGINAL surname of Abraham Kallen was something else. Perhaps Kalinski, or another similar Polish type name which could be 'morphed' into Kallen. However, there is also the possibility that Kallen was the original spelling. Best regards, Lilly Martin Descendants of Meyer Goldstein Generation No. 1 1. MEYER1 GOLDSTEIN Children of MEYER GOLDSTEIN are: i. MICHAEL2 GOLDSTEIN, b. June 17, 1837, Prussia; d. The other signature is very difficult to read. It starts with a big circular "flourish" and ends with ttlander. If it is of interest to anyone I could scan the license and post it if anyone wants to take a stab at his name. Thanks to all -- Steve Morgan Wilmington North Carolina

    3. For any listers seeking information from New York City churches, please note that FamilySearch has records (on film) for a sizeable number of these churches. The list can be found by going to www.familysearch.org and clicking on either the tab "search records" or "library." Choose "library catalog", then "place name" and enter "New York City." The link you want is the last one on the list that appears: "New York (City) - New York, New York (City)." Warning: there are 192 entries here, so be prepared to do some scrolling! www.bklyn-genealogy-info.com also has some info - as I recall, not only for Brooklyn. 3. I am researching my sister-in-law's family. We have marriage certificates from the City of New York for her great-grandparents (WILLIAM ANDERSON and MAGGIE KYLES ANDERSON) and for the brother of her great-grandmother (THOMAS KYLES who married KATIE GEE). The certificates are from 1879 and 1882 respectively . Although signed by different pastors, both signers showed their residence as 350 West 40th Street with one certificate stating that the pastor came from the German M. E. Church which I assume is for Methodist Episcopal. Relatives of these families worshiped at the Chelsea ME Church it seems that I am on the right track. I am hoping to find records of this church as we have no idea as to dates of death for the parents of the Kyles siblings nor do we have their date of marriage or place of birth in Ireland. Is there any chance of finding any of these records in New York City or through the Family History Library? These families lived all over Hell's Kitchen from 1860 on. and one of the Anderson granddaughters still lives in the neighborhood. Thanks to all. -- Steve Morgan Wilmington North Carolina -- Steve Morgan Wilmington North Carolina
