Hello to all I am new to this list, and dont really know what I am doing. I JUST HOPE THAT I HAVE GOT THROUGH TO THE RIGHT LIS! I am trying to trace one of my 4 x Gt Grandmother and any of her family. So far as I know they originated in Rutland Count, England. But with such an unusual name it should be easy. But not so. The result is that I am trying to follow up on any SNOUCH anywhere. The New York people found recently are >From Common Council Minutes, City or New York 14 May 1810 Fire Engine Company No 32. Edward SNOUCH, carpenter No 130 Bowery Lane vice (= replaced?) Peter Provost resigned 19 November 1810 Samuel Patterson, carpenter corner of Pump and Sedcond Street 10th ward v Peter Snouch resigned I wonder if anyone can tell me more about the two Snouches. Where they came from, familt etc. I also find a reference to a will as follows but have no idea what it means. This came from Ancestry, but as I do not have a subscription that covers the USA I am unable to get more. Is there a chance that soimeone might help on this please Dutchess County, New York Will Testators SNOUCH, JAMES FISHKILL NY-14-F-47 Column One: Name of Testator Column Two: Place of Residence of Testator Column Three: County #, Volume #, Page # All help will be much appreciated Pete in England F = 1819-1824

Kate you might try the Historic NY Times website. Try putting in the address. Sometimes you luck out and find a classified ad that can tell you what the building was like. I have had great luck doing this for some of my NYC residences. --- On Sat, 5/22/10, Kate <chrismomxyz@yahoo.com> wrote: From: Kate <chrismomxyz@yahoo.com> Subject: [NYC-ROOTS] NYC address in 1901? There are very few civil marriage records for 1866. Any available would be in the Municipal Archives. You probably need to search church records for a marriage. If you need a researcher visit the APG (Association of Professional Genealogists http://www.apgen.org/directory/search_results.html) or contact the NYG&B for a list of researchers. Was not aware NYC had marriage records prior to 1866 as there web site does not say that. All it says is pre 1930. and they will presumably search: Issuance of certified copy, when certificate number is provided, or search of marriage record, in one year, and in one Borough, for one name and issuance of one certified copy, or "not found" statement $15.00 Where did you get the information they have pre 1866 ?? **************************************************************************** ************* The NYC archives has pre 1866 marriages but they are not indexed. Came across a wedding registration of Timothy Patrick Healy and Ellen Anstegher Manhattan New York 09 October 1927. Timothy Patrick Healy is one of our grand-uncles that we never heard of again after he left Ireland early 1900's Timothy was born 02.03.1890 and married when 37 years old Searching the web I also found Thomas Martin Astegher mentioned as Ellens husband ? Some of the children were Healy's and some were Ansteghers, maybe Ellen was married twice ? Thomas Martin Anstegher born 1922 Gertrude Anstheger 1913 Eleanor Anstegher 1917 Patrick Anstegher Anna Anstegher James Healy born ? ( more then likely born after Timothy and Ellen got married on 9th October 1927 Manhattan) Neale Healy born ? Norah Healy Born ? Timothy Patrick Healy is our grand-uncle If anyone has more information about the children or anything else please ... Thanks for all the help Annemarie
I have found more information in NYState by going to the County Historical Societies. Assuming you are referring to Steuben in Oneida County, not Steuben County, NY, there is an Oneida County Historical Society, and there is also one for Greene County. You can find them through Google, and then contact the historian to find out what records might be available. The New York State Library in Albany, NY, is also a good source and has volunteer help. Hi I'm having a bit of troble sorting out my Collier line and hoping someone can suggest a plan of attack. I have Charles COLLIER marrying Jenny BENNEHOFF around the 1860's in NY. On the 1880 Census it states that his parents were born in Ireland. When I look up birth records for Charles Collier it states that his father Robert was born in Athens, Greene NY in 1790. Roberts wife is Polly? I'm just doing this from the LDS site so don't know what's what really. Robert seems to have died in 1850 in Steuben NY would his parents be listed on his death certificate at all. Any help much appreciated Kind regards Dianna
Hello Dianna, I am a descendant of Jeuriaen Caljer (Colyer). He lived in Kings County, (Brooklyn area), Long Island, New York. Many times he is refered to as Jeuriaen Caljer of Long Island. This surname became spelled as COLLIER by 1800. I have noticed that there is also an IRISH name, or British name, spelled Collier. However, because your family listed included so many DUTCH name, I am 'assuming' you family actually is tied to the DUTCH Caljer/Colyer family. This however does not help you in your immediate research, and perhaps this is something you already worked before. Sorry if this is old news. Just trying to help. In my family line Jannetje Caljer b. 1676, married Nicholas Brouwer b. 1672 Gowanus, Brooklyn, Kings Co., NY (Long Island) She was the daughter of Jeuriaen Caljer. Jeuriaen Colyer was a Ship Builder. He is included in "The Eary Settlers of Bushwick" by Andre Provost. (Bushwick is a neighborhood in Kings Co NY). In my Brouwer (Brower) family line they used the name Jeremiah over and over many generations and this was in honor of Jeuriaen. I also found many uses of Jurrie, Jury, which was another form of the name. I wonder, did you find any forms of this name in your line? In addition to the "NYC web site identifies buildings in NYC", http://gis.nyc.gov/doitt/nycitymap , there is also a NYC web site where you can obtain a photograph of the building or house where you or your ancestors lived in New York City. Between 1939 and 1941, NYC photographed every house and building in each of the five boroughs: http://www.nyc.gov/html/records/html/taxphotos/home.shtml I hope this information is useful or, at least, interesting.
