Hi All, I was wondering if anyone could tell me where court information would be held. This was a case that was arraigned Sept 5 1948, trial began Sept 21, 1948. Sentence was handed down Oct 1949. This trial took place in the Bronx but I am wondering where the records would be held. Bronx courts? Municipal Archives in NYC? Anyone? Gabriele
Hi Jean, You're quite welcome. And, if you're going to the see the Ebbets Field exhibit at the at the Brooklyn Historical Society, then you might want to make a day of it and check out Coney Island, as well. In "NY's revamped Coney Island takes flight", "New York's famed Coney Island, long fallen into a state of seedy disrepair, gets a new lease on life this weekend with the opening of 19 new rides including the hair-raising 'Air Race'." Hi there Many thanks for the guidance. I will be trying it later tonight. On the home page of that site please scroll down to where it says about a PROTOTYPE , which is a NEW website. This new website has actual images of census pages, and is FREE. One thing I have learned about this new website: you should browse through the database collection and then choose what you want to look at, then type in your surname. Because I have found that if you simply type in a surname, in your case Snouch, you may only get a few 'hits', but there will be more hits when you put the surname into each database. I do not know why this is, but I have found this through experience. There are quite a number of databases specific to New York City (NYC), and of course there are many census records you can look at. I tried to find any graves at: www.findagrave.com but there was no hit on Snouch. I went to Hertitage Quest, which is a census collection, and there was no hit on Snouch, which was surprising to me. Heritage Quest does not take into account for spelling variations. However, the prototype website I mentioned above does return data on anything which might be Snouch, spelled differently. Concerning the location of Fishkill, Dutchess Co, NY where there was a Will for James Snouch in 1819-1821 period: this area is also refered to as Rumbout Precinct, and also can be refered to as Wappingers Creek. I have many ancestors from that area in the same time period and earlier. Most of the residents were DUTCH people, descendants of Dutch person having come to Mahattan in the 1620-1670 time frame. However, there were some NEW comers and some from England. I happen to know that Stephen Callow lived there in the area and had come from London, England. He was an Upholsterer and Furniture maker/dealer. He was the second husband of my ancestor Sarah Drake Brower Callow. Hope this website I mentioned here will help you. Lilly, You went all out for Peter, and all you're suggestions and searches were excellent. Just one bit of information. In the LDS Family Search website, it's not necessary to scroll down to prototype. If you open the Search tab at the top, all you need to do is click on Pilot Search. Same thing. The GIBBS name in Romania, a report by Lilly Martin. The name in USA was spelled as GIBBS, but was probably Gips, Gipps, Ghips in Romania. These were Jewish people, most likely all from Botosani, or Jassy, Romania. Botosani had one of the highest percentages of Jewish people in Europe prior to 1900. A law was passed which denied certain rights to Jewish people there and so the majority of the community left, mostly to USA. I personally am researching William Gibbs, the suspender maker, who lived in the Bronx with his wife Sophia and mother Yetta. Solomon Gibbs, Naturalized US citizen at the Superior court of NY Co, NY. No arrival date was given and no birth date was given. Renouncing the King of Romania. Address: 188 Orchard st, NYC. Occupation: Suspender maker. Witness: Sam Cuperman, 153 Willis ave, real estate. Heim GHIPS, Naturalized 1905, born 1-15-1883, renouncing the King of Romania, arrived US 8-1-1900. Heim also was witness to 2 other Romanian men: Wolf Fliegler b. 1878, Naturalized in 1905, and Max Lacser (Lasur) Naturalized in 1906. Heim consistently gave an address of Manhattan ave, Brooklyn. Heim Gibbs worked in dry goods sales. Joseph GHIPS , Naturalized 1-8-1906, born 1884, arrived 7-1-1900 NYC, Renouncing the King of Romania. His witness was Samuel Lowenthal. Hello. Are there passenger lists for ships LEAVING New York? My great uncle,John George Robinson, Master Robinson and Miss Robinson and their nanny Mrs M E Ayles took a world tour from Fremantle. In 4th February 1911 they left Liverpool for New York on the Campania. When did they leave NY? Where did they go next before finally getting back to Australia? I have a photograph of him which I believe was taken in Buenos Aires. Using Mrs Ayles name is helpful rather than Robinson. Any help gratefully accepted. N M Cummins

They were on a world tour, came from Australia and went back to Australia so a passport application does not apply. You might want to check passport applications on footnote.com I was able to find a great uncles application for each time he left the country. Also, you may want to check Ellis Island because my Dad entered, left and reentered and he is listed each time he reentered. ****************************************************************** > Hello. In addition to that, it is an excellent site just to browse through, in regard to steamship lines. Jack Langton

NO Are there passenger lists for ships LEAVING New York?
321 was on the north side of 35th Street between 8th and 9th Avenues. In the 1900 census, 321 West 35th Street was in Enumeration District 266. The listings for this address are scattered over several pages (rather than being grouped together). The building was a typical tenement (multi-unit dwelling) with about 10 apartments. It's definitely not a hotel. The original building is not standing today, but a similar-looking tenement still exists next door (to the east) at 319 East 35th Street. Go to Google maps and search for 319 East 35th St, New York NY. Zoom in until a photo of the streetscape appears. The building with the barber shop and coffee shop on the street level is 319. The brick building to the left - a parking garage - occupies 321-323-325. The building at 317 East 35th (discount and acupuncture shops at street level) is another variation of what a late 19th century tenement looked like.
