Irish Central, an Ireland based website, reissued this today, from its sister publication, Irish America magazine, in the December 2001/January 2002 issue. http://www.irishcentral.com/news/A-tribute-to-those-Irish-Americans-we-lost-on-911-102612189.html Ireland is not forgetting us. Why should we? Barb
Thank you to those on the NY-Irish list who responded on this American day of mourning post. Leslie, may your family find peace. Although I had not been onlist all day, I was amazed that no one initiated this significant topic. Teachers used to say that we are taught history, to avoid the same mistakes. Please remember this day and all of its victims on America's soil. When your children and grandchildren, are old enough to understand, it is vital for us to educate them of the facts of that day, and how its impact is still being felt. Barb
Did you look for street directories? For those who have an infaCtuation with New York City's history and people. Let us always remember the victims who perished at the Word Trade Center on 11 September 2001, after attacks by the Al Quaeda terrorists: the office workers, medica/fire/police/religious rescue workers, and surviving family and friends. Let us remember the simultaneous, senseless airline attacks of the U.S. Pentagon and the selfless passengers of Flight 93, by Al Quaeda terrorists. Let us to pray for the "Scarred Forgotten," who have this date forever emblazoned in their lives: Those who escaped death's claws, "Pray for the dead; fight like hell for the living." The best way to search brides & grooms indexes is using http://www.stevemorse.org There whether you are using the brides or grooms indexes there is a link To the right of each entry that comes up and most times you will find the Name of the spouse. Having worked on some of the records I can tell you first hand that some are almost indeciperable. Add to that occasionally in the marriage index men are listed in the brides index and women are listed in the groom's. My advice for people who are having problems finding the record that they want is to check by the first name if it is not like Mary or John. The number of pages you have to look through should be manageable. If the last name is long, try looking for a couple of the letters and add an "*". And if you are looking for a marriage, try the groom's index for a bride, the bride's index for a groom. Who knows, you may get lucky. I am new to this list and searching information on two brothers of my mother who emigrated from Birkenhead, England, and settled in New York City. Peter McCann, born 2nd July 1900, arrived N.Y. on the Carmenia 12 Aug 1922. The manifest says he would be staying with his father at 337 East 22nd St. In 1962 he was residing at 1107 5th Ave, I think he was a janitor. In 1968 when he died he was living at 10537 Lake Peekskill, Putnam. His Social Security No 114-09-7836 Somewhere along the line he married Helen, and I would like to trace her surname and date of marriage. There were no known children. Joseph Gerald McCann, born 24th April 1905, arrived N.Y. on the Carmenia 1st Oct 1923. The manifest says he also would be staying with his father at 337 East 22nd St. In 1940 he was residing Lexington Ave. In 1963 he was at 70 East 77 St. N.Y. He died within a month of his brother in 1968, living at 112 Park Ave. His Social Security No 082-05-6313 Somewhere along the line he married Margaret, and I would like to trace her surname and date of marriage. There were no known children. Joe served in the army and was in Europe during WW11. I remember him visiting us in England in his uniform at the end of the war when I was six. Both brothers sent food parcels to my mother at Christmas during the war. I would love to trace Joe's record during the fighting, but I don't know where to start. The father of the boys (another Peter McCann) came back to England in the 20's. He seems to have made regular visits to N.Y. for work. He later bought a small farm in Ireland where he was born and where he died. Any help, particularly on the marriages and Joe's army record would be much appreciated. Ced McGrath, Merseyside, England

Hi Everyone, Just got back from NY and am happy to say that I did find a lot of things that are of great interest, Norman was in Mt.Loretto as one of you suggested, Margaret died from TB at 41 yrs old and is buried in St Peter's cemetery, Anthony Died from an uncertain cause in 1921 in the Manhattan State Hospital where he spent the last 7 years of his life, (shocking, but explains much!) 31 chambers was amazing! we went to Norman's grade school and high school, also some cemetery's and more, it was a very satisfying visit, not to mention that the people that we met on the island where very helpful and extremely nice. again I want to thank all of you who helped me, I would NEVER have gotten this far without your help. Good Morning New York! Would anyone on the list happen to know if the Society maintained biographies on the members? I am searching for a member, Jerome F. O'Connor, who deceased in 1966, and am having little luck tracing him. The Society placed a memorial ad in the New York Times at the time of his death but I have been unable to locate an obituary for him. I'd be grateful for any guidance anyone can offer. Have a safe and pleasant Labor Day Weekend! Donna
