Thankyou. However, I have his arrival, marriage, all census entries to 1930 and other information. I just need to find his death details. He may not have died between 1930-36, there could be another reason why his Wife re-married in 1936, but at the moment his death seems the most plausible. He had two sons Nevile b.1913 and Bertram jnr b.1916 who may have still been living with him. If anyone can help, in any way, I would be most grateful. Frances, thanks for the link to "theggg" I searched every database there and came up with no STACY which comes near to the lady I am looking for, so perhaps she moved out of the New York area to another state maybe or even across the border to Canada. She was baptised in England as Frances Adelaide STACEY even though she was registered Frances Adeline and sailed under the name Adeline Frances STACY so she's not making any search easy. cheers Bob > "Dis to Ada Matley " may mean discharged to Ada Matley. "The Company Strikes Back" seminar Sept. 25 in Albany ?The Company Strikes Back: the 1673 Recovery of New Netherland? is the theme of the 33rd Annual New Netherland Seminar, Saturday, Sept. 25, presented by the New Netherland Institute (NNI) in the Carole Huxley Theatre in the New York State Museum building. How could the Restoration of government by New Netherland take place against the world power of England? Eminent scholars will give presentations on various aspects of the question throughout the day. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m., for $50 or $25 with student ID. A box lunch may be ordered in advance for $10. The welcome reception and dinner at 6 p.m. at the University Club costs $65. More information is available at the website www.newnetherlandinstitute.org or by email to nyslfnn@mail.nysed.gov. The NNI is a membership organization formed in support of the New Netherland Research Center (NNRC), located in the New York State Library in Albany. The NNI raises funds and administers grants such as the matching gift of ?200,000 presented by Crown Prince Willem Alexander and the Crown Princess Maxima of the Netherlands. The NNRC is based on the New Netherland Project of translating 17th-century Dutch documents as its core, with Charles Th. Gehring, Ph.D. as its director. ###
Denny, Frances Adeline STACY's actual birth registration was during the July-September 1/4 of 1886 at Norwich,Norfolk U.K. so when she arrived in New York in April 1912 she was still 25 years of age. Although she arrived in the USA with her forenames reversed around, if she was married in New York and had to produce a birth certificate then this would have shown Frances Adeline STACEY (note the extra E in the surname.). FreeReg has church baptism which I have just located and this says she was actually born 6th June 1886 and then baptised "Frances Adelaide STACEY" IN 1888! In the 1911 census in the UK I just found her with the name "Adelaide" STACEY, so she's not making the search easy. Try a search on the following website which also has a link to another website you can search. Anyway, I have found many of my ancestors on this website, after I had searched Ancestry.com, and lots of others. Also one of my ancestors came up on the marriage list, with her mother's maiden name. I tried it just as a last minute thought, and sure enough there she was. So just keep trying, and good luck. I mentioned the other day when yu poosted the same msg ot another msg board........There is no 1920 census record for her nor is their a marriage or death for her in NYC. U may have not gotten that response. What was her borthdate ?? I have just subscribed to this list with hope that some local genie sleuth will be able to locate my Ancestor who arrived in New York from Liverpool early in 1912. She was born Frances Adeline STACY at Norwich, Norfolk in the UK in 1887, her parents being Samuel STACY and Ellen STACY nee' DAY. By 1903 both her parents had died and so far she has done a disapearing act for the 1911 UK census. However I have just discovered her on board the Carmenia from Liverpool to New York early in 1912. By this time she had reversed her forenames and both the departing and arrival passenger lists have her as Adeline Frances STACY, a single 25 year old nurse whose previous address was in London, UK. The Ellis Island ship's manifest has her definetly being born in Norwich and her attention was to stay with a friend " a Mrs Johnsey at 232 East 76th Street, New York, N.Y. Further along the line is written "Dis to Ada Matley 34 East 67th Street" although I do not know what this means? My questions are would there be a record of any marriage in New York or nearby for and Adeline Frances or a Frances Adeline STACY (or STACEY) after 1912, or if still single, any mention of her in the following census of 1920? Would her name appear in any New York newspaper notices? or would she be listed under her maiden name if or when she may have applied for US citizenship? "Dis to Ada Matley " may mean discharged to Ada Matley. When I visited Ellis Island they said women traveling alone had to wait until someone came for them.
