    3. Jim, it's too bad most of your interview was cut, but it was a treat nevertheless to put a "face" to a "name"! Thanks for sharing the site with us. 2. Please, she asked timidly, would you all remember to change subject lines when you change topics? People are now posting other questions under the Basilica header, and many of us delete w/o reading if we are not interested in a topic. thanks, Elizabet

While I have no proof his body did not go home I would think that very unusual in that time frame. I have been to his hometown in Scotland to go through records there. Never found anything mentioning a burial. I have some records named in several files but frankly I have been unable to find where they are held. His wife, who was a Virginian, and their two children went back to England/Scotland with him in 1776 but after the peace treaty was signed and the son graduated from Medical School at Edinburgh they came back to Va--1792. I do have a reference in an 1904 book on the NYHS about a letter of administration for his estate in NY and the librarian at the NY State Library, the NY State Archivist, and the NYHS believe the city court still has the record. After looking at the rates they charge to look for it--$90 plus $6 per page I am going to try some other things first Going to look for newspapers now--Thanks Doug

    3. Hahahaha! Thank you, Mary - I never look to be interviewed, but I couldn't avoid speaking with several reporters that had television cameras along with them this time, because the basilica event was so well attended by the media. My position as volunteer historical researcher for the Old Cathedral kind of put me in "the cross hairs" of the reporters. 3. One other thought, Douglas - have you checked GenealogyBank.com to see if there was a contemporary newspaper account of his death? If there is one, it might mention the disposition of his remains. There are Loyalist newspapers on the GB site. Being an officer and a doctor fighting with the British forces, I'm wondering if his remains might have been returned home. Have you checked to see if that was a possibility? 3. Hello Douglas, Off the top of my head, my first thought would be to ask you if you've checked with the folks at Trinity Church - St. Paul's Chapel to see if his burial was noted in their records? These are Episcopalian/Anglican churches, so it's a definite possibility that he might have been buried in one of those churchyards. I do not know how well the records were kept of burials in the Colonial/Revolutionary War time period, though. It can never hurt to ask!
