I can't see any place the numbers start over at #1 for 1923. I sent them an email asking about this. The first time I got back advice on how to do basic research. I asked again and got back links to the NY archives. Any suggestions?

Hi Loreen, I took a look. It certainly doesn't make sense. I myself, would do one of two things. Either I would try sending for certificate #6230, thinking perhaps they left the "0" off the end of the number in the index, or I would send the names and ask them to look up the record in the index and see what I got. I received this bit of information on a man named Daniel Hinkley that I thought sounded promising: UNION NEW YORK VOLUNTEERS Listed in co G 37th Regiment New York Infantry Nat'l Guard Mustered in service 6 May 1864 Duty in New York Harbor. Mustered out 6 June 1864. 37th Regiment Nat'l Guard Infantry 29 May 1862 Left State for Middle Dept. until 2 Sept 1862 mustered out. 18 June 1863 Left State for Harrisburg, PA 19 June 1863 attached to 4th Brigade 1st Div., Dept of the Susquehannah, Action at Sporting Hill 30 June Carlisle 1 July Mustered out 22 July 1863. 6 May 1864 Duty in New York harbor Mustered out 6 June 1864. Could this be my Daniel Hinkley? If I could find an enlistment record for this man that might clear up who, if anyone, were his family. He had 3 daughters and a son Robert Arteman Hinkley. Oops, they lived in Greenpoint Brooklyn...I have a copy of the mothers death cert...not much info. Her mothers name was Marius (Marie, Mary). Maruis's parents names were listed on her death cert and her spouses name. I also found out where she was buried but Maruis died in 1902 when Ida was still young. Thanks. And two possible marriage records, only the places do not make sense: Church Marriage Donnelly Ellen 1825 Co. Westmeath Church Marriage Donelly Ellen 1828 Co. Leitrim BUT, there is a matching record for Hugh : Church Marriage Brady Hugh 1825 Co. Westmeath So both an Ellen Donelly and a Hugh Brady married in 1825 in County West Meath. West Meath is right beside Dublin by the way. Annemarie, According to the 1860 census Hugh Brady was born in 1808 and Ellen Donnelly was born in 1809 so they could have been 17 and 16 respectively. In the 3rd quarter of 1832 Hugh Brady born in 1808 and Ellen Brady born in 1809 arrived in Maine.
