Would anyone please have the above named people in their research. My Henry and Rose, along with Henrys sisiter Agnes E, emmigrated from Isle-of-Wight UK 1899. They were all in domestic service and had connections to the Bronx, Westchester, Stamford and Fairfield areas with family connections. My last find on Henry and Rose was in the 1930 census which shows them both retired in the Bronx area, Henry 68 and Rose 65. I cannot find what happened to Agnes after 1910 when they were all in service together with Henrys niece Dora Scovell. Would love to know when Henry and Rose died and where buried. Agnes too. I do have all thenecessary information on Dora Scovell, her marriage, child , death and where buried. This "block" just will not move. Kind regards. April
Hi April, Have you tried looking for a marriage record for Agnes? And for death records for Henry & Rose? If not, go to http://www.theGGG.org They have vital records databases. For years what they did have were old marriage and death records. Birth records of any kind are a relatively new addition. Projects are constantly being worked on to add to what is already online. If you would like to see more records online more quickly, volunteer to help put them there. ;) ----- Original Message ----- From: "Judith Eggers" To: <NYC-ROOTS@rootsweb.com> Sent: 10 May, 2011 8:44 AM Subject: [NYC-ROOTS] old NYC Birth records > Hello, > > Can someone tell me what happened to all the old NYC birth records > that were indexed with certificate # available on line several years > ago? Ancestry Library Edition is what is made available to public libraries. Did you try looking at Ancestry's card catalog for the database you want? Hi What exactly is Ancestry Library Edition? I've looked on Ancestry but have not found a clear explanation. I just filed a find on the Rhode Island 1777 Military Census from Ancestry - it popped up when I clicked on military when checking on Pardon Gray of Tiverton, Newport, RI. Didn't take any special search. Chris, In the 1870 U.S. census, living in in Adams Township, Allen Co., Indiana, Frank Greave 47 Hanover Joseph 22,John 19,Matilda 17,Clara 15,Catherine 11,Mary 9,Emma 6, all born Indiana John Greave 84 Hanover Mary Greve 75 Hanover Note different surname spellings Jack Langton
Hullo there - thankyou for your input Mary GREVE was born c 1795 in Hannover, Germany - possibly near Bremen. She married Cord Friedrich GREVE and after having had several children in Hannover they migrated to South Australia. Her husband Cord/Cordi/Cort , died in South Australia in 1857. I have found a Mary GREVE in Ohio, but can't be certain she is mine. There are no other US family living in Ohio, but that doesn't mean anything! Reasons for sons living in NJ and PA is that Henry married Sophie SURGANTY in Elmira, NY - they had two sons Frank and Harry. The family then returned to South Australia in 1877 - Henry's home state. Henry and Sophie had several children - one of whom was Joseph. Harry and Frank returned to US - Frank joined the Navy and was killed on the SS Maine in Havana Harbour, Cuba (Beginning of the Spanish-American War) Harry, his brother,, joined the 3rd Pennsylvania Volunteers, returned at some stage to PA and married and lived in Reading. His younger brother Joseph left South Australia and settled in NJ. I will only be able to progress with my GREVE search when I find the ship that Mary travelled on from London, UK - it may just give me her forwarding address and therefore her sons - I have not been able to find her on the 1870 Census and I can't find her sons because I don't know their names - all a bit of a brick wall really But I hope there is someone who will be able to help me. Good morning Listers This is my first posting on this site and I am hopeful that someone can help me In 1866 my Great Grandfather Henry (Heinrich Wilhelm) ANDERS aged 16 years travelled from South Australia to London, UK to New York, USA. He was companion to his grandmother Mary GREVE aged approx 70 years old. She left Adelaide, Sth Australia to join her sons in New York. The names of these sons are not known. If anyone could give me any information particularly on Mary GREVE - she arrived in New York (family hearsay) in August 1866 - the name of the ship is not known but we do know it was a sailing ship. Henry stayed in USA and moved to Elmira, NY - married Sophie SURGANTY, had two sons, and returned to South Australia in 1877 where his family grew One of Henry's sons Joseph lived in New Jersey, another Harry lived in Reading, PA, the eldest, Frank, died on the SS Maine Any information on these families would be great Regards Chris in Hahndorf South Australia
Does anyone know if there was a St. Mary's nursing school in Manhattan, c. 1905. I Googled and found a St. Mary's hospital in Brooklyn for that time frame. I just want to make sure I did not miss one that could have been in Manhattan. Thanks, Bobbi

Dreeny, Generally when people request a genealogically-oriented item related to Social Security, they are requesting a copy of the SS-5, which is the application that the person filled out in order to obtain a Social Security number. These documents can be invaluable because they provide not only the names of both parents, including the mother's maiden name, they also include a different birth name if there was one -- imagine my surprise to learn that the birth name of my husband's grandfather Irving Siegel was in fact Samuel Saminowitch. So they can also provide evidence of an earlier surname prior to a change. The SS-5 will generally also provide a street address, occupation and perhaps an employer's name. A death certificate may provide some of the same information, but then again it might not, especially if the informant does not know the information. These are two completely separate documents. To be honest, I really don't know what sort of record the other person was seeking to find that wasn't an SS-5. I have never before heard of such a thing as a "death record" being provided by the Social Security administration. Perhaps they exist, but if they do, I have no knowledge of them. -- Mary On 4/18/2011 10:30 AM, Doreen Jackson wrote: > Is the SSI Certificate the same as the Death Certificate or are they two > sep[arate documents. > > Dreeny > > > > > ________________________________ > From: Mary D. Mary, Thank you, that is very informative and interesting. I filled out the application for a copy of SS-5 and was told I could not obtain one. I have the Death Certificate for the person in question so before trying another avenue, perhaps, wanted to make sure. I live in England and the Death Certificate was obtained for me by an email friend in the US who is loosely related to the dead person. The death was in Texas in 1983. dreeny ________________________________ From: Mary D.
