    3. I am looking for information on my grandparents John Barrett and Catherine McGuinness (not sure of spelling) I know my grandfather was born in Brooklyn, New York. On sept. 6, 1898. And when he was young he went into an orphanage. I don't know much about my grandmother except. Her birthday is July 4, not sure of the year. The orphanage my grandfather went into is in brooklyn. I would do this myself but I live in Oregon. And I am disabled. Any info would appreciated. My email address is: ugmug1944@yahoo. Sincerely, Kathleen J. Turner Sent from my iPad

    2. Doreen Jackson
    3. Hello all. I have been searching as best I can online for the death of a Gt.Aunt in or after 1930.  I have contacted many sources that have an email but nothing found.   I have tried other things like random "Google" searches but no luck. Going through Vital Records seems the only avenue I can see now, but it is a rather complicated process outside the USA. Therefore, before doing this I thought I would run it by you good people on this list in case anyone had another suggestion. In 1930 Alice Louisa Davis was 61yrs of age so I would think not too many years to search.  Doreen in the UK

Yes, it was tedious, but it finally cleared up. Your alternative is to open another account and stop using this one. 3. Not much you can do. You probably went to a website that hijacked your email address and sent out emails under your name. Did you check your sent folder? This happened to me a few weeks back. Not sure what virus protector you have. Had McAfee at the time, with a firewall, and I still got it. So I switched to AVG which is supposed to be the best out there according to ratings. Others may know more, but that is my take on it anyway. On Tue, Jul 26, 2011 at 8:14 AM, Marie <onchygana55@yahoo.com> wrote: > My computer is telling me I have no viruses.. what am I suppose to do? 2. Bobbi
    3. Thanks to Elizabeth Knowlton for her wonderful recommendation of the "Real Estate Record." While doing research on particular areas of interest, I came across a wonderful article describing the problems of apartment building owners who wanted to give telephone service to their tenants. This article is from 1917. Great read! 1. [NYC-ROOTS] REAL ESTATE RECORD a great source
    2. I just found a great resource called the Real Estate Record (and later the Real Estate Record and Builders' Guide) that has been put on line by Columbia University. http://ldpd.lamp.columbia.edu/rerecord/browse.php and to search http://ldpd.lamp.columbia.edu/rerecord/search.php However, I initially found it with simple google searches. I would never have thought of using this for genealogical research, but what it did was tell me whether people were alive or dead at certain times. The vital records index is great, but if you have a more common name, like Mary or Sarah Brady, how can you be sure (without ordering every death certificate or going to the Municipal Archives) if that woman is yours. I had found possible death dates for these women in Manhattan, but could not be sure they were alive after the 1880 census. Googling their sister Amelia, who I knew lived until 1925, I found their three names in this source when they sold their house at 144 127th St. April 21, 1890. Now I could be sure they lived until 1890, making it more likely that the very old women who died in the next decade were they. Charmed with my success, I googled their married sister, Ann Eliza Prophet, and found her named children selling a store and tenement on 126th St (their father had been a grocer). In one of two notices they were called "heirs Ann E. Prophet." Aug 30, 1890. Therefore I knew she had died by then. I am sure you all can come up with even more imaginative ways to use this. I believe they charge $15 per certificate and $8.50 for mailing costs. Below is the link where you can download the right form to use. On it, you will see the requirements for proper identification listed at the bottom. You might want to include a family group sheet that indicates how you are related to the deceased, along with a statement that you are requesting copies for genealogy purposes or to research family health history (I've found that the latter works quite well when ordering records for relatives other than direct ancestors.) http://www.nyc.gov/html/doh/downloads/pdf/vr/death1.pdf Hope this helps.~Marlene On Sun, Jul 17, 2011 at 8:48 AM, Bob Liddell <spa_bob@yahoo.com> wrote: I wish to obtain two death certificates from New York City.
