    3. One last thing I would like to mention, if you don't find the year you are looking for, check back in a couple of months.  FamilySearch is adding to its' collections everyday. 2. Elizabeth Knowlton via
    3. Thanks, Bobbi, These are of course the same records available from LDS that we used to rent on film and read at a local Family History Center (still available). And although all the records on line are not yet searchable, many if not most of the books have indexes at the back or front of the volumes. So you can pull up the record, check the index, and go to whatever page you want without having to click all the way through the volume. We found a great deal on our Wilkins family in the 1810 time frame by doing this. The main thing with genealogy is to keep poking and looking, then reviewing what you found and thinking about it. Things are MUCH easier than in 1986 when I began and there was no Internet. I combined renting films with traveling to the areas and still find new information that way as well as the new techniques of Internet surfing and DNA analysis. 3. I was referring to family search, that time period is not available If NYC has them that would be good but they do not even have an index which shows what is available Doing research in NYC leaves a lot to be desired given that BMD indexes were done by volunteers. for incorporation into the IGG and GGG. Ob the flip side CA and other states have many more available records. Why is it that NY can not do this ?? -----Original Message----- From: Diane Jacobs <[email protected]> To: 'Robert Pieterse' <[email protected]>; nyc-roots <[email protected]>; bobbidoll <[email protected]>; NYC-Roots-L <[email protected]> Sent: Sat, Jul 18, 2015 7:01 am Subject: RE: [NYC-ROOTS] Barber List I don't think this is entirely true. 2. metronycancestry via
    3. Dear Friends, This email is prompted by someone on another list asking what "Incipit Mensis" means in Latin and the responder said -- "begins the month" [singlar month, a month] Of course you can always look-up these Latin terms that prevail in legal, Roman Catholic, European, and medical documents, but that can become a tedious and distracting task, especially when you merely want to understand the gist of it. You might try this: Look at each word, then consider what more formal language words come to mind. With the above example> incipit---inceptive, incipient...So. you think "beginning." mensis---menses= the plural form of "that" time of the month, as in menstruation [Notice the word's endings are like thesis (one formal college paper) vs. theses (multiple formal college papers) You can draw upon your everyday English language experience to decode Latin. When in doubt, stretch for more formal words, like: automobile instead of car, mortuary instead of funeral home, podiatrist instead of foot doctor, etc. Comprende muchachos? [Understand, my friends?] BB

I wrote to them and they sent me his records and his booking photo. I am a member of Ancestry but haven't had any luck so far. The newspaper article only said he was sentenced to the Federal House of Detention, no other name. I know the Brooklyn House of Detention had not been built The crime and trial both were in NYC and both of the men lived in NYC too.
