Donna, death certificates are filed at the town level. Do you know where Peter died? Also, 1884 is rather early for death certificates in NY. I don't remember when the law requiring death certificates was passed, but it was ignored for a long time. You may be lucky though and find out that there is a death certificate for Peter.
