Where in the world did someone get the idea that in Broome County, it is up to the Town Historian to preserve old cemeteries? I believe that the NYS law says that when there is no longer a church or association to care for the cemetery, the town governments are required to maintain them. As Town Historians, many of us are interested in seeing them preserved, but it is definitely not in our job description. As a matter of fact, how would it be possible for us to do so? We are not financially or physically able to do this, unless we are responsible for orgainzing a group of willing volunteers. Alice Ruby Town of Chenango Historian
