    1. Galen & Langdon, NY
    2. C.M. Chan
    3. I am looking for two towns which I think are in Broome County. The first is Langdon's Corners. I am wondering if it was connected to Langdon, NY, or if Langdon was once called Langdon's Corners. I have Paul Langdon born there in 1739, and Benjamin Langdon born there in 1805. The second place is Galen. I've found Galena on the map in Broome County and am wondering if it is the same place, or if possibly Galen was written by mistake for Galena. I have Ira Langdon born there in 1837. Anybody know anything? Thanks. cmc

    3. Hi, I'm new to this list and I'm just wondering if anyone can help me. Does anyone know the address of the Binghamton Fire Company? My great-grandfather, Patrick J. Houlihan was a retired fireman there, & I'd like to request information about him. Also, does anyone know if there are city directories for Binghamton & how I can obtain copies? I'd like to see if I can locate Patrick & his family during the 1920's & 1930's. Thanks, C. Loftus zephyr@epix.net

    3. Subject: [NYSCHOHA-L] Rowe Family Date: Tue, 24 Aug 1999 07:48:47 -0600 From: Timothy Brown <tjbyya@uswest.net> To: NYSCHOHA-L@rootsweb.com Listers, In response to the recent discussion about the Roe/Rowe family, to which I have not paid close attention, I wanted to remind folks of the Rowe family genealogy books - two of them - by Frank Roe, which may provide some clues. Unfortunately my copies are in storage. As to the legends around Indian blood in the Roe/Rowe family, this has been a tradition passed on in my branch of the family as well. My grandmother says that a g-uncle back or two, named Smith as I recall, married an Indian princess. I have never been able to substantiate this claim and have wondered if it is just a "family legend." Frank Roe, the book author, had done some research in Jefferson, New York, but was unable to document it, either. Also, a small note about town boundaries. Someone living in Broome and later Gilboa may not have moved at all. Gilboa was formed in 1848, the eastern part from Broome and Western part from Blenheim. Timothy Brown Greeley, Colorado

W. E. B. DuBois was a descendant of a slave of my ancestor, Coenraat Hendrickse BORGHGHARDT, the father of 'Housatonic Colony,' which later became Great Barrington and Sheffield, MA. The initial, 'B.,' in the name of W. E. B. DuBois was for 'Burghardt.' Milbrey Otto Burgett mottob@att.net

What does the 1802 date signify--birth, marriage, death; and what additional information does your mother have about him? Yes, my ancestor, Jehoiakim6 BURGHARDT, and a Hendrick BURGHARDT were listed as Heads of Household in the 1790 Federal Census for Kortright, Montgomery Co., NY and the 1800 Federal Census for Kortright, Delaware Co., NY [the county structure had changed between 1790 and 1800]. My Jehoiakim6 had a brother named Hendrick, and I believe that the above were brothers. I could not find Hendrick after the 1800 census. He either migrated elsewhere or died after that census. There were BURGHARDTs to the west in Lisle, Broome Co., NY afterward; but I have not researched them yet. The name, Jehoiakim, came down through the VAN VALKENBURG family. The parents of my Jehoiakim were Conrad5 BURGHARDT and Judith VAN VALKENBURG; and the paternal grandparents were Hendrick4 BURGHARDT and Eve VAN VALKENBURG. Judith and Eve were cousins. 1. Kate BURGETT + Hermance SMITH of Davenport, Delaware Co., NY
    2. Milbrey Otto Burgett
    3. Helen: YES, it is potentially VERY MEANINGFUL!!!! Conrad BURGET, an early town official in Davenport, Delaware Co., NY [ca. 1815] who m. Huldah ROWE [who presumably was b. in Schoharie], d. 3 Feb 1819 [age 40] and was buried in the SMITH Family Burying Ground in the Davenport area. When I went to site for the SMITH Family Burying Ground on the Delaware Co., NY USGenWeb, Conrad was the only non-SMITH buried there!!!! I was seeking a connection between the BURGET/SMITH families in this area, and this is probably it. If there is a date available for the marriage of Hermance SMITH and Kate BURGETT, it could tell us that perhaps Kate BURGETT might have been either a sister or daughter of Conrad BURGETT. I am researching the possibility that Conrad BURGET was one of the older sonS of the Hendrick BURGHARDT/BURGET listed as a Head of Household in the 1790 Federal Census in Kortright, Montgomery Co., NY and the 1800 Federal Census in Kortright, Delaware Co., NY. I also believe that Hendrick BURGET to have been a younger brother of my ancestor, Jehoiakim BURGHARDT, Sr. Both Hendrick and Jehoiakim served in the 9th Regiment of the Albany Co., NY Militia. Thanks for looking again!!
