    3. Has anyone seen an improvement in the new website? I still do not have my previous Saved File transferred. and I get a message that I have exceeded my limit. Yet when I look, there is nothing saved. I started to do new searches. Are we going to have to pay to use this site? And I cannot seem to look at a manifest, it keeps jumping around. I have been in touch with them, but it seems useless. Thanks

    3. You can still copy a file with your snipping tool although it does not come out crystal clear. When you use your snipping tool go all the way around the box, do not let your cursor touch the actual document...you'll still need to read the enlarged doc with the stupid cursor that goes backwards and jumps all over, but you can get a copy of it. Ellis Island has a facebook page and I recommend registering complaints there. I worked with Peg, the VP for the Ellis Island org and they have NO intention of making the manifest any better, they want you to buy their ridiculously priced copies and they are VERY touchy about any criticism of that. I suggested many changes to Peg and some have been made but the most important one is a GOOD FAQ which they had not done the last time I looked. It takes some hunting around but they do have some decent tools now but without a decent FAQ many folks are confused by the new site. The site USED to be halfway decent...I think they have made it worse JMHO...and when you ask about something that is supposed to be there and it is not they tell you what plate # it is on...well that does no good if there is no way to search for a document by plate #. Perhaps if enough of us refuse to buy their $50 copies they will get reasonable. I suggested an email version for a cheaper price and they got very hostile about that idea...It is quite simple...this is ALL about money so unless it hits their pocket book nothing will change. They claim they have lots of sales of those things...but I don't know WHO would pay $50 for a darn manifest. Luckily ancestry.com does have a lot of those manifests also...sometimes the date is just slightly different. I imagine the manifest copies are coming from 2 different sources as on one I only found a few kids and on the ancestry.com one I found for one day later it had all the kids... SO if you run into something on Ellis check ancestry.com and see if they have a copy...the date may be a few days difference...I think the one I found that way was one day different. Squeeky wheels get the most grease :-) Squeek away on facebook or by email... This entire thing is a REAL cluster...and it is $ running their decisions.
