In 1917 it was called St Josephs Female Orphan Asylum, at 735 Willoughby Ave, Brooklyn NY, from the information I've gotten this is the one my mother and aunt were in. I did receive a reply from them. They cannot make copies for you, but they transcribe the information for you. They were very helpful. Hopefully this helps you. My mother was there during that same period of time. Instead of going through the Diocese, I researched the orphanage itself and arrived at the address below. The address I used then was: St. Joseph's Services For Children and Families 540 Atlantic Avenue Brooklyn, NY 11217-1982 (718) 858-8700 They didn't have much but what they did have was great. You could call them and see if they are still this location. I hope this helps you. I???ve spoken to Catholic Charities Brooklyn & Queens. They hold the records for St. Joseph???s but the records don???t start until 1920 per the person who responded to my inquiry. I???ve also talked to the Brooklyn Diocese office and they have nothing. I???m trying to find the records for the above Mary born in 1887 to Hannah or Anna McLoughlin and John or Daniel McDermott.
