    3. Dear Friends, This is today's news pertaining to closing Roman Catholic Churches within the Archdiocese of New York. The Archdiocese of NY includes the following counties: New York, Richmond/Staten Island, Bronx, Westchester, Putnam, Rockland, Dutchess, Ulster and Sullivan. I've deducted there are two types of closures from CBS News: TYPE 1 Parish closures, or "fade outs": Right column churches will only be used on special occasions, and will MERGE with the left column churches that become the main parishes, marked by an asterisk* https://cbsnewyork.files.wordpress.com/2014/11/parish_list_2_final_-_one_church_103114_2.pdf TYPE 2 Parish closures: Borth right and left column churches will continue to have masses and sacraments, but MERGE with left column churches that become the main parishes, marked by an asterisk* https://cbsnewyork.files.wordpress.com/2014/11/parish_list_1_final_-_both_churches_103114_2.pdf In the past, Archdiocesan records were moved from one closed church to its sister/surviving parish. But, I've not read anything about transferring records...yet. Genealogists may want to postpone requesting sacramental records until the dust settles. If anyone has more information, please post on list. Barb
