I do think this is appropiate on this site. We study and discuss NY Genealogy and NY history here. 911 is part of that history for not only NY but for the nation. The list reminds us to fly our flags on Veterans Day, the Fourth of July, and Memorial Day in honor and memory, this is no different. It is to honor those who went before us which is a lot of what genealogy is all about. History does not have to sit on a shelf to be later discovered. On this list, they are. For example, Nancy Lutz, our List Administrator, sends us greetings on holidays, and we subscribers often post our memories of how we celebrated them in Brooklyn. Nancy is a kind and generous person who has made the Brooklyn List a family. I'd rather not receive political messages when I subscribe to a subject specific list. Perhaps the list owner can answer the question for me, and possibly others. Thank you. Please join us in this FLY THE FLAG campaign and forward this to your address book friends, asking them to pass it on. THE PROGRAM: On Thursday, September 11th, 2008, display an American flag outside every home, apartment, office, and store in the United States . Every individual can make it their duty to display an American flag on this seventh anniversary of our country's worst travesty. This is a gesture of unity to honor those who lost their lives on 9/11, their families, friends, and loved ones who continue to endure the pain, and those who are fighting to preserve our cherished freedoms. In the days, weeks and months following 9/11, our country was bathed in American flags as citizens mourned the incredible losses and stood shoulder-to-shoulder against terrorism. Sadly, those flags have all but disappeared. Our patriotism pulled us through some tough times and it shouldn't take another attack to galvanize us in solidarity. Our American flag represents our country. Together we can prevail over terrorism of all kinds Take a moment to think back to how you felt on 9/11 and let those sentiments guide you. Some folks are choosing to drive with their car lights on. Others will wear red, white, and blue as statements of unity.
