Obits are only available from the NY Times or in your case the Brooklyn Public Library as the papers for Brooklyn are not on line. I'm interested in finding an obituary (if there is one) for a Larry Rodie, who died in Brooklyn on 15 Aug 1992, per the SSDI. I'm in California, however, so looking is a bit of a challenge.
