    1. [BKLYN] Birth record or baptism from 1887 in Brooklyn

    3. Hello all, I am desperately searching for "proof" of birth of Thomas/Tommaso/Gaetano Valiando/Valiante. His parents were Michele & Antonia Valiante (Italians that came to US ~1880 and changed surname to Valiando while in US) Based on records I have collected I believe he was born on May 17, 1887 (WWI draft card for Thomas Valiando). His 1912 marriage as Tommaso Valiando puts him at 25 years old. His 1922 death certificate in Brooklyn as Thomas Valiando puts him at 34 years old (no date of birth provided). The 1900 census for Michele & Antonia Valiante list him as Gaetano born in 1890, but many years on that census were off by +3 years) I have contacted the Municipal Archives to search for his birth certificate from 1887-1890 in Brooklyn, but no results turned up. He had 5 US born siblings (Alphonso, Maria, Rosie, Louisa, Angelina, Catharina) and only the youngest, Catharina appears to have been registered with the city. I know he was married at the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary on April 30, 1913 to Esther Noel. >From 1894 (Michele's naturalization) to 1900 I know that Michele Valiante/Valiando and family lived at 3 Howard Court, and from 1900 and on they lived at 145 Prospect Street. The archivists of the Brooklyn Diocese were incredibly helpful and recommended three churches where he may have been baptized (as the child of Italian speaking immigrants): Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Our Lady of Mount Carmel St. Peters (records now at St. Paul & St. Agnes) I have contacted those three churches and am waiting for responses. I do not want to take the "shotgun" approach of bothering every Catholic church in Brooklyn that existed in 1887, so I am targeting my requests based on suggestions and high likelihood. Can anyone think of any other churches or options I can follow? I am in Sydney, Australia so this is a difficult search from a time-zone and distance perspective. I have gathered records for much of the Valiante/Valiando family, but this one record is missing. Thanks for any help that can be offered.
