    1. [BKLYN] Today at the Municipal Archives
    2. For anyone who has been to 31 Chambers Street, you know what an extravagantly beautiful building it is, with it's marble swirling staircases and handrails, high ceillings, carved medallions, etc. Even the dividers in the ladies' room are marble, from its inception. Today, as I saw a couple of weeks ago, the entire ground floor open space was decorated with thousands of live red and white flower bouquets, panels of burgundy velvet curtains between the interior columns, and later in the day, furniturel...a huge black, baby grand piano and furnishings suitable to an exquisite home. After speaking to some folks, I found out that a Disney movie was being filmed there, once the building closed to the public. It is a romantic comedy with Danny DaVito. The basic plot is about a woman in Rome who takes coins from a fountain, and then is pursued by the men who tossed the coins there. The expected release date is December. The building is supposed to depict a grand room in Rome. In addition to the swarming filming crew, the archives were chock full of out of staters researching. You can always spot them. They are not used to the pace. They inadvertently block the aisles to the microfilms and get offended when the limited, multi tasking staff at the archives gives them fast, curt directions to use the machines. It's vacation season here too. For those unfamiliar with 31 Chambers Street, the building is a landmark and photos w/o today's decor are available online...just go to Google.com. Episodes of Law and Order and CSI are regularly filmed there. It was one of those luscious summer days in NYC today with heat, but a breeze, and low humidity. Days like this make you proud to be a native New Yorker. Barb ************** Gas prices getting you down? Search AOL Autos for fuel-efficient used cars.
