Hi Barb, I did some research about Ancestry.com, etc when the Generations Network took over. My purpose was to find out if they are listed on the stock market, and their "symbol." They do not have shareholders. Research showed that they are privately owned and concentrated in Utah. It certainly appears to be a monopoly to me. Hmmm if it looks like a duck, quack like a duck..... Let's face it this is a profit making organization, who many of us inadvertently provided our free labor to it. If anyone knows otherwise about stocks, please share the information. =============== I have two issues with Ancestry along the way. One, when I found out that my husband and I separately signed up for subscriptions, they would not do anything about refunding, combining accounts, or extending time. That struck me as unreasonable and greedy. Two, and most importantly, when I researched on their site, I placed some "potential" ancestors in my "private" ancestry search file. My plan was to return there to further inspect these finds, to determine definitive relationships. Meanwhile, some married-in woman, accessed it and fouled up the authentic ancestry. At the time, no one informed us paying subscribers that anyone could do this. Some folks can defend it saying the major purpose is to share information, but on whose charge card?
