Calvary had what it called "Free Ground". Several of my immigrant ancestors were buried there in addition to more in regular purchased graves. In general, I've found that Calvary can only search if month and year of death are known. However, it never hurts to phone and ask. If the person who answers isn't too busy, they might just widen the search. We knew they'd lost one child but the birth certificate of a child born in 1909 says they had 6 children and now 4 were still alive. I haven't been able to locate any children in the indexes who belong to the Michalski's so I'm trying to now guess at where they might have been buried. A son died in WW1 and the parents were later buried with him in Old Calvary but the children who died earlier are not in the grave according to Calvary. Where would a poor Polish Catholic family have buried their children in Greenpoint between 1901 and 1909? Will Calvary search the records year by year for me? Maybe they're in a different grave? Kathy
