FYI NYS was declared a State of Emergency by Governor CUOMO in the early afternoon Saturday. Statements yesterday said thousands w/o power may be restored by Tuesday. Wonder where Andy was? NYC folks were quick to blamed NYC Mayor Bloomberg last winter, while he was on holiday, when a storm crippled the city. PRIMARY RESOURCE, from YOURS TRULY Radio reports did not forewarn drivers that the Taconic State Parkway and RT 84 were closed, so that traffic was rerouted to US RT 9, the only N-S route that trucks and tractor trailers may utilize. Two lane US RT 9, south of Fishkill, was not ploughed or sanded until 6am Sunday! CRVs and trucks passed cars, into stalled oncoming traffic, then five tractor trailers jackknifed and fouled up everything. There were no hotel rooms to be had. Some hotels in Fishkill, gave stranded travelers pillows and blankets to sleep in their lobbies. Some drivers were in cars 12-15 hours for normal 1-2 hour trips. The Sheriff's Department of Garrison, New York assigned one cool, calm, efficient sheriff to handle the mess, that is until *someone* phoned news stations, the same Sheriff's Office, and finally the NYS Department of Transportation; then two ploughs, an MTA observer, and tree cutters arrived on the scene about 6:20am, that is once we had cell service working. On US routes in NYS, only DOT has the authority to order road crews, not the little towns along the way. This route from Fishkill to Peekskill, NY was mysteriously clear by the Garrison Country Club and Graymoor south. NJ & CT Reports Governor Chris Christie declared New Jersey a State of Emergency too. Residents were told they may receive power by Thursday. Connecticut probably was hit the hardest, also without room at the inn. So that's the scoop with the tri-state area.
