I am trying to find out what happened to a child whose father was sent to jail in 1883 for murder. The child appears on the 1880census as being at the St. Vincent de Paul home in Manahattan. I can't find him anywhere else after that, including with his older brother - or, if he is there, I am just not seeing it. Does anyone have any knowledge about how children in this position were handled? I have assumed possibly he went to relatives, but that he was in the home to begin with suggests to me there may not have been relatives willing/able to take him. I realize this is Manhattan, but this list seems to know everyting, so I was hoping someone here might have dealt with a similar situation, or with the St.Vincents records, if they exist, or what have you.
