    1. [BKLYN] Ellis Island has totally screwed up their site with new changes
    2. Joyce Presnall via
    3. I just tried to sign in to review an immigration file I had found before as one of the names on that register has popped up in the family and I wanted to review the manifest. !st I was unable to sign in under my old acct info. I sent a request for my PW but by then it had assigned me a new acct...I JUST finally got someone to return my call (212-561-4588) and spoke to someone who is involved in all the website changes and they are anxious to hear about issues people are having. In my mind they have made the site virtually unusable. What they have done is made it so that people can no longer "snip" and thus copy document info. I explained to them that I figured that was the reason for the change but that at their prices, no one is going to buy documents, especially when they cannot get a good enough look at the document to see if it is their own people. Please EVERYONE go to the site, and then let them know how you feel about these new changes. BTW links to these documents from familysearch.org no longer work either. I let them know that and also tried to get a message through to familysearch.org as well. I am very irritated at this as in my mind, they have made the site so difficult to get around and made it so difficult to examine the documents as to have rendered the website virtually useless. PLEASE let them know what you don't like about the new site as they are still in BETA and can make changes, but they cannot make changes if they don't know what the complaints are...so please contact them so they can get this site better designed for us, the customers. Please pass this on to any other lists you belong to Joyce -- Researching Stephenson/Stevenson, Fleury, Heald, Lindelof, Young, Rubino, Cammarota, Mandracchia, Vaiarelli, Mulhern, Johnson, Haight, Erickson, Munson, Northrup, Sears, Camp, Gunn, Allen, Gorham, Plumb, Beard, Rogers, Eliot, Briscoe, Bradley, Mix, Wilmot, Pritchard, Mew, Stone, Sparke, Bayley, Bailey, Redfield, Redfin, Howland, Tilley, Sturgis, Hinckley, Kirk, Norton, Gerard, and many more...

    1. Re: [BKLYN] 1934 Brooklyn Death Certificate from New York City Municipal Archives
    2. Lauri Russell via
    3. I recently sent this directly to Colin but thought it would be good for anyone else who may have the same inquiry. Colin, The death certificates I recently ordered were for years 1911-1918 so I did a google search for your question: What is on a NY 1930's death certificate? The search returned options to see images. So looking at a Death Certificate that had been ordered by the NY Municipal Archives in 1930, I found: Registration # Borough: Address: Full name: Sex: Color or Race: Single, Married, Divorced: Wife: Husband: Date of birth: Age: Occupation: Birth place: How long in U.S.? [This is a great question! - Just keep in mind the person supplying the information could be wrong.] How long in NY? Name of Father: Name of Mother, Maiden name: Special information if death occurred in hospital Date of Death: Place of Burial: Undertaker: Date of Burial: Address Cause of death: Not all answers may be provided. An informant may know some but not all information and you should check the answers with other sources of information that you gather to confirm if it is reliable or not. To see a copy of a death certificate that was ordered from the NY Municipal Archives for in the 1930 here is a LINK: http://extrayad.blogspot.com/2013/09/treasure-chest- thursday-hoda-wilson.html Good luck, Lauri Russell BU OL 13 Forensic Genealogy Foundations 2013 APG Member lauri.russell@gmail.com Need research in FL? 1. [BKLYN] Quigley Families in Brooklyn
    2. Colin Quigley via
    3. Hi List, Is anyone else researching the "Quigley" family in Brooklyn. My great great uncles John & Edward Quigley left Govan near Glasgow in 1886 for the USA. They were both born in County Monaghan between 1859-64. It looks like there may have already been some of their Quigley family in Brooklyn. John Quigley married Margaret Hogan c 1896, John died 15 May 1931 at 336 54th Street, Brooklyn (no children). I believe Edward never married and his death is unknown. Yet when Margaret Hogan died herself in 1933 at 336 54th Street, Brooklyn, she left money to a Bridget Quigley, Elizabeth Quigley and Patrick Quigley all of 511th 9th Street. I am trying to find out how these Quigley's fit into my tree as it looks like John and Edward had no children. Bridget died on 16 July 1934 aged 75, her obit still has her living at 511th 9th Street and states that Patrick and Elizabeth are all siblings. Patrick died on the 10th Sept 1938 aged 74, his obit has him still living at 511th 9th Street and it said he is survived by sister Elizabeth, 6 nieces and 5 nephews. I found an Elizabeth Quigley on the 1940 census at 511th 9th Street, a widow, aged 55 and living alone and born in Ireland. I was at first thinking that Patrick, Bridget and Elizabeth were John's and Edward's brother and sisters, but the Elizabeth on the 1940 census was born c1885 and John and Edwards parents died in Scotland before 1885. It is possible that John and Edward had and older brother (not in my tree) already in Brooklyn and Patrick, Bridget and Elizabeth are this mystery kinsman's children. I am now left with 3 Quigley's I cannot attach to my tree. Does NY death certificates contain mother and father information? Any help would be appreciated. Regards Colin Quigley Glasgow, Scotland
