Happy New Year from New York! Barb
Dear Friends, I discovered this long ago and am reposting. If you are a NYS resident, you can access NYS records only, for free on Ancestry.com. http://www.archives.nysed.gov/a/research/res_ancestry.shtml Once you enter a NYS zip code, you are lead to a list of a list of NYS Records. I found the above by clicking around links. NOTE: Residents of other states may have similar or other free access to G research sites. For example, all Connecticut public libraries offer free Heritage Quest access. If you are unfamiliar with HQ, you can search census records through them. Happy 2015, Barb

Sharlotte, Are you certain of Mary Barrette's birth year? There is a death record for Mary Barrette age 40 in the death records listed on the Italian Genealogy Group web site http://italiangen.org/ which gives a death date of June 21, 1917. Allowing for mistakes in age supplied by informants at the time of a person's death, I would get this record. It will show the place of burial. Sheila Santa Barbara

Hi, I hope someone can help me. I am trying to track down the burial place of Mary Lillian Donnelly Barrett (1884-1917) and her husband Edward A. Barrett (born 1884 in Scranton, Pennsylvania). She was born in Canastota, Madison County, New York to Thomas John Donnelly and Nora Heffernan Donnelly. The couple was married at Saint Agatha Roman Catholic Church in Canastota. Mary Lillian Donnelly Barrett died in Brooklyn, New York in 1917. I believe she is probably buried in Brooklyn. I would appreciate any information or ideas on her final resting place. Thank you. Good point, Peggy. l) Here is the URL to "Access to Archival Databases." Yes, there was a fire, but it was 40 years ago and files have been reconstructed, though not completely. (I'm hoping our Daniel will chime in here, as he worked there then.) b) The DD214, separation from military number, helps you get the correct records, but is not mandatory if you can provide enough details. c) The site states minimum 3 month wait, as long as 6 months. File it and mark your calendar. They ask that you not file multiple requests. d) You can write to your U.S. Congressmen and they can obtain military records for you. Often links such as these are links to an Index, not the full information. I invite everyone to "read the fine print" on websites, explore them, read Directions. Every repository has links telling you HOW to use their site, usually has a list of HOLDINGS, and guides you through finding your specific family. You need to understand the process, in order to obtain the records that you want. Barb ==================== From: Peggy Bowman peggy.bowman47@gmail.com I followed your instructions but found nothing. When I went through the National Archives over 6 months ago, I filled out the form and waited and waited. Hi folks~ I asked this of a facebook group, and got very good advice, but there is also so much knowledge here...I appreciate any input. I was researching a woman whose name appeared in a family grave list. Her name was Ann Conlan, and research revealed she was older sister to my 2X great grandfather, Michael Fox. I was given a death date for her of May 21, 1873, so I applied to the good LDS people for a DC for this lady. They said there wasn't one to be found, even though I had a date and number. They dug around and found paperwork for an Ann Conlon who died May 23, 1874, and sent it to me - almost a year, exactly, separating the 2. But it wasn't a DC - it was a coroner's inquest verdict. Further digging turned up info about both Anns. 1873 Ann was a suicide with kids, and 1874 Ann was married, but had "known intemperate habits"...she went outside her door, sat down, and died. She was found there sometime later. Follow up calls to Holy Cross verified mine was the 1874 intemperate Ann. Anyway, after all that!!! I am unable to find any DC for this woman, and HC says they have no DC or inquest # with her record. The inquest doc # is what italiangen has listed. Has anyone had an experience where an inquest doc sufficed instead of a DC? Thanks, Judi

Dear Friends, With Obama's recent announcement re: US Immigration policy, present "illegal" Irish immigrants are forewarned about traveling home for the holidays. Such travel could jeopardize their residency "time" & status here, and inhibit future naturalization. http://www.irishcentral.com/news/politics/Irish-government-warns-undocumented-not-to-return-home-at-Christmas-.html If you have not followed this issue, O's "non-deportation action" * applies to US immigrants from multiple nations, not just South America & the Middle East. [And, not HWONJ's Joe Guidice, whose deportation was adjudicated.] O's change applies to only immigrants with children, thus single or married-w/o-children "undocumented aliens" are presently excluded from this "amnesty declaration." * The term "action" is used as this move is against present U.S. immigration/naturalization law and historical procedures (criminal backgrounds, infectious diseases, etc).
People on lists could collaborate. One could post online the film name & # that they have. Then, others ask for specific cert look ups from that film.
