    1. [BKLYN] Marriage Record Question
    2. Marilyn GROSBECK
    3. I have a copy of a marriage record for Robert Cox. The certificate number was obtained from the Italian site. Certificate # 4366 The site says the bride is Cora Hawes and the date is September 2, 1900. Certificate # 4366 The marriage record says that the bride is Ida K. Hawes and the date is September 1897. The stamp from the Department of health says July 20, 1900. Certificate # 4366 I can not find any marriage record at the Italian site for Ida K. Hawes. This is a bit of a puzzlement. Would someone have any idea about this situation? Thank you, Marilyn

    1. [BKLYN] follow up to my "Brooklyn B" query...RC Church near 2nd Street
    2. Susan
    3. Thanks to one of the listers, I realized that I left out the fact that I have the NY Times obituary for my Stephen Harrington, but it only states that he lived at 334 2nd Place (other documents state 2nd Street), that he died on June 15, 1918, and that his funeral was "today at 2pm" --June 18th, 1918. Since they lived at 334 2nd Place/Street - would anyone know what churches were in that vicinity? Thanks again! ~Susan

    1. Re: [BKLYN] Brooklyn " B "

    3. Thanks - here's the info: Stephen Harrington, born circa 1879-1883, father possibly James, mother possibly Ellen. Both parents born in Ireland--no idea what county, though. Stephen allegedly grew up in Red Hook, 1905 document lists *"Brooklyn B"* as birthplace, and he's 23--making his birth year *1882*. 1907 birth cert for another daughter just lists Brooklyn, and that he's 28 -- making his birth year *1879*. Have not yet obtained birth certs for his sons born circa 1909 (Richard), circa 1911 (Edward), circa 1914 (William & Stephen - not twins to my knowledge, but I don't have any dates!) Found him in 1910 census only - he died in 1918, so no luck for 1920 census, and no WWI draft card since he died a few months before the required sign-up date for his group. He's listed here as 27--making his birth year *1883*. His death cert lists NO birth date, states only "US" as place of birth. He was a driver for the Transit Authority, living at 334 2nd Street, died at Metropolitan Hospital. He's listed here as 38 --making his birth year *1880* . I haven't been able to determine which microfilm to order the 1905 census, but in June, the birth certificate from June of that year lists 194 Nelson Street, Brooklyn. According to 1910 census, Stephen/Steven married Ellen Hussey/Hussy circa 1904, but I wasn't able to find their marriage cert! His surname is listed differently on various documents - Harington/Harongton/Harrington. His family (brothers/sisters/parents-not certain) were supposedly alive at the time of his death in 1918 & lived close enough to visit, but, again, I can not find anything!! If ANYONE can find ANY info....it'd be a damn miracle!!! Anyone up for the challenge? :) ~Sue Curley On Mon, Jun 2, 2008 at 5:10 PM, <Bbokken@aol.com> wrote: > You may want to post the names of the family and other > information you may have as there is always a possibility that > others may be able to assist you. 2. For anyone with bakers in the family, there is an easy reading biography titled "Father's Bakery" authored by Marvin Korman. It's about a non fictional Bronx family's bakery business and suggests many day in and day out aspects of this occupation. It is also reminiscent of the Bronx. 3. I am having trouble reading a WWI draft registration card and can't figure out the name of a wholesale German bakery where a gentleman named Joseph Mauser/Mausser worked as a "fireman" or oven operator. The bakery name looks something like "Profit & Schomacker," and it was located on Haywood Street in Brooklyn (possibly #87). If anyone has access to business directories for Brooklyn in the early 1900s, any help locating the name of this business would be much appreciated. Thanks. 1. [BKLYN] Frederick Jacobs D-C solved, sort of
    2. Hi, Somehow I was able to find that Frederick Jacobs was buried in Washington Cemetery in Brooklyn. He died July 30, 1902, at the age of 76. You may recall that we could not find his NYC Death Certificate even though the newspaper obituaries said that he died at home (from TB) on Lafayette Ave in Brooklyn. I went to the cemetery today, in person, and they showed me the original Interment Book from 1902. It confirmed his age, the cause of death, but under "residence," it had "Vaelsburg, NJ"! I can only assume that this alternate "address" must be related to a TB Sanatarium or something like that. Has anyone heard of that town before in such a connection? Thanks! 2. Hi, Someone sent me an old Coroners Report from Dec. 1876 in Manhattan. It states that the person (Mary Jacobs) was "found" at 231 E. 51st Street, but that the 'place of death' was, 128 E. (or W.?) 32nd Street, in Manhattan. Should I assume that the second address was a hospital of some sort? Is the 1876 NYC Directory online so I can check her usual home address? On the report, also, are the words, "Agent Pending" for the cause of death. That seems odd if the Coroners Jury was making the decision itself.
