Hope this helps, I desperately needed the birth certificates of my brother and sister. Our parents were deceased and both my siblings died horribly from ovarian and pancreatic cancer. My need for their birth certs derived from my doctors questioning my medical history as to the validity of paternity. (This is very personal and I cannot divulge the reasons). I have been using an extremely competent and professional researcher to help me with my genealogy issues and she helped me get them. It can be done, and I now have their birth certificates issued by the BOH. They were born 1937 and 1938. Contact me OFF LIST ONLY for info about contacting the researcher. Cheers, Claudia

St. Ann's Church at the corner of Front and Gold Streets closed a number of years ago. Initially, the records were sent to an adjoining parish, St. Gregory's . I think. When that church closed as well, St. Ann's parish records were redirected to Diocese of Brooklyn's Archives where they are currently housed. You can contact the archives at: Office of the Archivist Roman Catholic Diocese of Brooklyn 310 Prospect Park West Brooklyn, NY 11215 Phone: (718) 965-7300 Fax: (718) 965-7302 or 7323 E-mail: archives@dioceseofbrooklyn.org Joe Coen or Pat McNamara, the resident archivists and all-round good guys, will be happy to assist you with your search for baptismal and marriage records, as well as other information. Remember to include a monetary gift with your search request. While the archives is funded by the diocese, any donations are gladly accepted and will be put to good use. Also, if you have any historical materials pertaining to the Diocese of Brooklyn, individual parishes, or priests who may have served in the diocese in the past, please consider donating them to the archives. You will be helping those of us who are researching the lives of some of Brooklyn's priests who are now gone and . sadly . forgotten. ______________________________________ Lauren MacKenzie Petit from my padded cell @ Bellevue ... There has been recent controversy on several NYC and metro area lists about obtaining vital records in or from NY State, NYC, and the City of Yonkers, and the legal year parameters. Here is some general information you may want to keep. There are exceptions, so please view the homepages provided. A) NY STATE VITAL RECORDS- may provide genealogical copies HOMEPAGE: http://www.health.state.ny.us/vital_records/genealogy.htm Simply, NYS began keeping records in 1881, excluding New York City. Additionally, NYS DOH does not have birth, marriage, or death records from the cities of New York, Yonkers, Albany and Rochester (its largest cities) prior to January 1, 1914. With Yonkers, Albany, and Rochester, you need to contact the City Clerk directly. B) NY CITY VITAL RECORDS The year and type of record determine where you search. 1) NYC Municipal Archives, 31 Chambers Street, Room 103, NY, NY 10007 HOMEPAGE: http://www.nyc.gov/html/records/html/vitalrecords/home.shtml HOLDINGS LIST: http://www.nyc.gov/html/records/html/vitalrecords/holdings.shtml BIRTHS: prior to & including 1909 MARRIAGES: prior to and including 1929 DEATHS: prior to and including 1948 2) NYC DOH Office Of Vital Records, 125 Worth Street, Room 133, NY NY 10013-4090 HOMEPAGE: http://home2.nyc.gov/html/doh/html/vr/vr.shtml BIRTH FORM: http://home2.nyc.gov/html/doh/downloads/pdf/vr/birth1.pdf DEATH FORM: http://home2.nyc.gov/html/doh/downloads/pdf/vr/death1.pdf MARRIAGES: 1930> Contact the City Clerk of the Borough of interest C) THE CITY OF YONKERS HOMEPAGE: http://www.cityofyonkers.com/Index.aspx?page=58 In a meeting with an archivist from the Westchester County Archives, we discussed the Yonkers City Clerk inaccurately rejecting vital records requests, based upon the year requested. We researched the law and found that all of NYS is to adhere to these guidelines: Birth certificates -- on file for 75 years. Death certificates -- on file for 50 years. Marriage certificates - on file for 50 years GENERAL INFORMATION Documents that prove that you are the direct line descendent, always increase your chances of being an exception, as will documentation of the deaths of the parties involved in your request. All of these agencies, whether you research in person or request a search by mail, require photo ID of you as the requester, as well as that of any genealogist or agent acting on your behalf. They will return your records to you. Your genealogist or agent needs a notarized letter from you, to present for records retrieval. The letter would state that you give permission to this intermediary to acquire these specific records for you. Often a live person can retrieve records easier. If you have any further questions, please refer to the homepages above. Barb N of NYC ************** Gas prices getting you down? Search AOL Autos for fuel-efficient used cars. Hi, Does anlyone have the address for the first three numbers assigned to the various states? Thanks, Rita
Hi, Does anyone know where the records for this church would be?? My ggrandparents, grandparents and their children were married and baptised there starting about 1860. Thank you, Rita
In the fifties and early sixties there was a meat market on 8th. Avenue between 68th. and 69th. Streets. Anyone remember the name of this market? Trivial, but it would be a link to my cousins. Thank you. CL
I was born in 1923 at St. Catherine's Hospital, Brooklyn. The hospital was torn down many years ago and the land is now occupied by a housing project. Where would I find the records of the hospital at this time? My initial birth certificate from the hospital spelled my name wrong but when I first saw it I just penned in a correction. This was good enough but when I had to have a security clearance it was not acceptable. My parents then got a corrected certificate from the city. I was living overseas at the time so they acted as my agents. The original certificate was apparently issued at the hospital for the city. I want to find out, if possible, what other information would be in the files, I.e., time of birth, discharge date, etc. John Myers, Cave Creek, Arizona.

Hi Gladys, I've done a little google searching. There's quite a bit about Ramsgate's cases online. He seemed to have quite a sense of humor on the bench. In the NYT archives, I found that he was appointed to the Domestic Relations Court by Mayor Wagner in 1954. He was a court judge before that time, of course, and very likely was appointed by Mayor LaGuardia. I found an obituary for his 3 year old daughter, Nancy, who died in 1937. At that time, he and his wife had two other children. His mother died two years before in Cos Cob, CT. What I do find strange is that, I haven't found an obituary for him. I not very knowledgable on the court or legal system. Hopefully some other kind person who knows a lot more than I do, will help you out here. In the meantime, my suggestion is that you contact the County Clerk's office in Brooklyn, and perhaps they can steer you in the right direction. Please let us on the list know how this search is going. I set my web page up using the ftm 2005 book publishing it allows you to change the files to pdf which has an index of names. I found this was much better than just using the gedcom file. I just use the web space I am allowed on my Yahoo account. Not as fancy as some others but clearer to understand. See for yourself. http://alicefluegge.com/phillips_mcknight.pdf I hope this helps. Go to the link below and scroll down about 3/4 of the page. The first paragraph beginning with "one of the best sideshows" tells about Magistrate Judge Charles E. Ramsgate. Also try googleing his name and title for more info. Good luck in your search, ____________________________________ From: PANTERA205 To: PANTERA205 Sent: 6/15/2008 11:53:18 P.M.
