While WWI enlistment records are not available online, there is an alternative. After WWI, the War and Navy departments created service summary cards for every WWI veteran. The cards were turned over to the state adjutant general of the state where the veteran was living at the time he entered the service. New York's WWI service cards are held by the New York State Archives in Albany. You can obtain a copy of a WWI veteran's service card for $1 from the state archives. The cards contain such information as induction and discharge dates and military serial number. A description of the cards is located at this link: http://www.archives.nysed.gov/a/research/res_topics_mi_wwi_military.shtml#b0808 Here's a link to the New York State Archives order form for WWI service summary cards: http://www.archives.nysed.gov/a/research/res_topics_mi_warsvc_form.shtml To see a sample of the WWI service summary cards, go to the web site of the Florida State Archives, which has scanned and posted on the Internet images of its WWI service cards; here's a link: http://www.floridamemory.com/Collections/WWI/ Bear in mind cards were created only for men who actually served in WWI. 1. Re: [BKLYN] Brooklyn Street Name
    2. To answer your question, I highlighted, cut, and pasted the *incorrect* spelling below into Google.com. Since Google corrects spelling errors, it came up with "Chauncey" Street. 1. [BKLYN] DIVORCE RECORDS of others
    2. As I already posted in response to those seeking copies of divorces, that are not their own. The Kings County Clerk has an index of all matriminial actions, and may provide you with a divorce date, if the papers are less than 100 years old. If they are more than 100 years old, you may file a request for copies of the actual divorce. This time factor agrees with other NYC counties, WestchesterCounty, and I think is a state mandate. DETAILS HERE> http://www.nycourts.gov/courts/2jd/kingsclerk/copies.shtml#divorce EXCERPT FROM JOY RICH POST re: NY COUNTY=MANHATTAN DIVORCE "divorces...New York County are held by the Civil Branch of the County Clerk's Office. The files for 1799-1910 are located at 31 Chambers Street on the 7th floor. To find out how to obtain a record for a divorce that occurred more than 100 years ago, call the County Clerk Archives at 31 Chambers Street from Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. at (646) 386-5395. Ask for Joe Van Nostrand or Bruce Abrams. http://www.courts.state.ny.us/supctmanh/county_clerk_records.htm Joy Rich Brooklyn, NY" If you have further questions, please refer to the links of the Kings Couny Court Clerk. 3. The German Genealogy Group will hold its next monthly meeting on Thursday, September 4th at: Hicksville VFW Hall—Post 3211 320 South Broadway (Route 107) Hicksville, New York 11801 The program this month will feature “Searching For My Roots: The Making of the Book” with presenter Kenneth Bausert. Mr. Bausert will be demonstrating the steps involved in the process, which will allow you to assemble all of the pieces you have accumulated and create a lasting Family History record. Mr. Bausert was born and raised in Richmond Hill, Queens and has been a resident of East Meadow since 1973. He has had a varied career in business, photography, lecturing and writing. He became interested in genealogy around the time of his mother’s death in 1980 and began his research on a casual basis. He has since self-published his own family history. If you have ever wanted to self-publish your family history, this is the program for you. An Orientation session for beginners and newcomers will be held at 7 PM and the regular meeting will start at 7:30. GGG members and guests will have access to the building beginning at 6:30 PM. Among the many benefits of GGG membership are a newsletter published ten times a year, a database of surnames, a free translation service, a book and CD lending library, interesting guest speakers at the meetings, mentoring, a start-up kit of helpful information and much more. We welcome all who are interested in researching their Germanic origins. There is no fee for guests and all are welcome. 1. [BKLYN] Brooklyn Street Name
    2. Hi Marilyn, That's "Chauncey Street", home of the "Honeymooners", Ralph and Alice Kramden, who lived at 358 Chauncey Street (reportedly, 358 Chauncey Street was the address of Jackie Gleason's boyhood home). I hope this information is useful or, at least, interesting. L'Shannah Tovah* & Happy 5769, Walter Greenspan Great Falls, MT & Jericho, NY * L'Shannah Tovah (li-SHAH-nuh TOH-vuh; li-shah-NAH toh-VAH) Hebrew. Lit. for a good year. The common greeting during Rosh ha Shannah and the Days of Awe. This is a shortening of "L'Shannah tovah tikatev v'taihatem" (or, to women, "L'Shannah tovah tikatevi v'taihatemi"), which means, "May you be inscribed and sealed for a good year." This year, the two-day Jewish Biblical Festival of Rosh ha Shannah (Lev. 23:23-25) will begin at sunset on Monday, September 29 on the civil calendar.
