Judy, I have two cousins with public trees on ancestry.com and their pictures show up okay. Maybe it depends on whether you have set your tree as public or private? Also is this other user someone that you invited to your tree or just someone who tried the tree without being invited? I'm not sure if that makes a difference also. I have a picture on my ancestry tree, and my cousin has about 100 on his...never had a problem, so don't know what to tell you...but photos do exist on some trees... Perhaps they did not load correctly? Maybe you should delete them and try loading them again? A lot of work if you have more than a few tho...so contacting ancestry support might be a better bet if you think the problem is on their end...although they are not real good about meaningful responses...their first email usually says (within 48 hours) automated response is "we will assume the problem is resolved unless you contact us again" so you have to contact them a second time to "get the ball rolling" ... Eliz, You can go to mapsonus.com, or any of the other online mapping sites, and ask for a trip map from "17 Marie Street, Hicksville, NY" to "471 South Broadway, Hicksville, NY". I hope this information is useful or, at least, interesting. This is a shortening of "L'Shannah tovah tikatev v'taihatem" (or, to women, "L'Shannah tovah tikatevi v'taihatemi"), which means, "May you be inscribed and sealed for a good year." To the list. Has anyone heard from Mike in Texas. I was wondering if he is in the line of the hurricane. Eliz **************It's only a deal if it's where you want to go. Find your travel deal here. (http://information.travel.aol.com/deals?ncid=aoltrv00050000000047)
First I would like to thank soymaven and Arnold for their help. Also Ellie you are the greatest. I have another question about Hicksville. I have another address for there. It is 17 Marie St. Hicksville NY. the year about 1939. The names would be Harry Kessler and Adam Kessler. Do you think this address is close to the 471 South Broadway?? I am also looking for an Anna ( Kessler ) Large sister to Eva ( Kessler ) Knapp. Anna may be in Brooklyn. The Harry Kessler mentioned above is brother to Anna and Eva. Thanks again. Recently, the topic of nicknames came up around the names Hugh, Cornelius, and Bernard; all of these are commonly found in Irish records. Even in formal BMD records, nicknames were often used, causing confusion for researchers. Is anyone having trouble accessing Ancestry? It does not seem to recognize my subscription. Bill
Hi again Eliz, The HAMLET of Oyster Bay is also in the TOWN of Oyster Bay in Nassau County, and, if you haven't already done so, for questions such as yours, you may want to contact the Oyster Bay-East Norwich Public Library (the library can suggest which local newspaper might have this information and other possible sources of information): Oyster Bay-East Norwich Public Library 89 East Main Street Oyster Bay 11771 Tel: 516/922-1212 Fax: 516/922-6453 eMail: ??????? http://www.nassaulibrary.org/oysterbay/Newsite/index.html Oyster Bay is one of those many villages and hamlets on Long Island where most of the places that have the community name as part of their mailing address are not in the hamlet. It is important to know that there are 3 "Oyster Bays" (from smallest to largest, in order of acreage): 1. There is the Hamlet of Oyster Bay (763 acres); 2. There is the "Oyster Bay, NY 11771" ZIP Code postal zone (7,002 acres), and it includes the Hamlet of Oyster Bay and parts of other surrounding villages and hamlets within its service area; and, 3. There is the Town of Oyster Bay (70,908 acres), and it includes 18 villages and 18 hamlets as well as the "Oyster Bay, NY 11771" ZIP Code postal zone and other postal zones, within its borders. The pertinent geography: Oyster Bay is a hamlet (an unincorporated area) in the north most part of the Town of Oyster Bay, in the northeast part of Nassau County. There are 18 villages (municipal corporations) and 18 hamlets (unincorporated areas) all or partly in the Town of Oyster Bay. There are 2 cities and 3 towns in Nassau County. (I'm including after my name a NYS Geographic Glossary with the NYS definitions of county, city, town, village, hamlet and postal zone.) Beginning on the north and moving in a clockwise direction, the Hamlet of Oyster Bay in the Town of Oyster Bay is bordered on the north by Oyster Bay Harbor; on the east by the Village of Oyster Bay Cove; on the south by the Hamlet of East Norwich; and, on the west by the Village of Upper Brookville and the Village of Mill Neck. For the map of the Hamlet of Oyster Bay: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/7/75/Oyster-bay-map.gif And, as occurs in all but one of Nassau County's 136 communities (2 cities, 64 villages and 70 hamlets), the Hamlet of Oyster Bay has a different border than does the "Oyster Bay, NY 11771" ZIP Code postal zone (i.e., a place can have an "Oyster Bay, NY 11771" mailing address and not be in the Hamlet of Oyster Bay). .............................................acres .....Hamlet of Oyster Bay............763 .....Oyster Bay, NY 11771........7,002 .....Town of Oyster Bay..........70,908 Thus, you can readily see that 9 of every 10 places with an "Oyster Bay, NY 11771" mailing address are NOT in the Hamlet of Oyster Bay. These places may be in the Village of Centre Island (incorporated in 1926), the Village of Cove Neck (incorporated in 1927), the Village of Oyster Bay Cove (incorporated in 1931), the Village of Laurel Hollow (incorporated in 1926), the Hamlet of East Norwich, the Village of Muttontown (incorporated in 1931), the Village of Upper Brookville (incorporated in 1932) and the Village of Mill Neck (incorporated in 1924). For those who have their copy of the 2007 or earlier edition of the LI Population Survey or have already downloaded the report from the Long Island Power Authority web site (eMail me directly if you need instructions on how to access and download the report), you'll find the Hamlet of Oyster Bay in the Town of Oyster Bay, Nassau County on pages 5 & 11 (map) and 12 (population estimate). I hope this information is useful or, at least, interesting. Hi Eliz, The HAMLET of Hicksville is in the TOWN of Oyster Bay in Nassau County, and, if you haven't already done so, for questions such as yours, you may want to contact the Hicksville Public Library (the library can suggest which local newspaper might have this information and other possible sources of information): Hicksville Public Library 169 Jerusalem Avenue Hicksville, NY 11801 Tel: 516/931-1417 Fax: 516/931-1417 eMail: hilmail@alis.nls.lib.ny.us http://www.nassaulibrary.org/hicksv/ The pertinent geography: Once the potato capital of LI, Hicksville is a hamlet (an unincorporated area) in the center-west part of the Town of Oyster Bay, in the east-central part of Nassau County, along the Oyster Bay/North Hempstead/Hempstead town line.
