I'm trying to find out if my distant relative is listed as an attendant in 1900 at Long island State Hospital. A person with the same name is listed and all the info, spelling of name, places of her birth and parents birth are the same for what I have. Does the Hospital still exist? Are records available for genealogy research? I would be furious too. It was bad enough that I stored some *possible* hits on Ancestry, to review later. Of course I thought that was all private! Some married-in woman copied it all, and included my suppositions as facts. Plus, she included elderly, living relatives with details. Oh, the cherry on the cake was I was listed on "her" tree as decceased since 1986. Just wait until the general public gets it hands on the new, reviatlized LDS version of familysearch.org. I uploaded my tree to a site called www.myheritage.com. It periodically sends via email possible matches with other trees. Quite a few were real. I agree. I use Amazon.com to find out about books, small appliances etc. It is helpful to know what others think. I never take the manufacturers reviews at face value. They are trying to sell a product, so never will tell you the down sides of it. I have found ONE WORLD TREE useful in that sometimes it at least gives you a starting point to research further...In my experience you should NEVER take what another person has in their records at face value. Using other trees as a starting point can have some benefits though. Be careful in joining that information with yours. I always save others info to it's own file, until I have verified their information.
