Whoops, accidentally just sent this to the sender only, when I meant to send it to the list (hitting reply doesn't always go to the list). With long URLs, try www.tinyurl.com. You paste in your long url and it gives you a short equivalent that you can send in email without wrapping or breaking. (Then when you click on the short URL, it takes you to the original URL and the visitor can bookmark it.) Not everyone knows to fix broken URLs, and it solves the problem. Good morning listers. I just got a message from www.footnote.com which may interest some of you. They have been working with the National Archives and today announce that the first batch of the Civil War Widows' Pension Files are now on line....on Footnote. I am happy to report that using FOOTNOTE I have found things on line that I never knew existed. Joy, Sorry you're having trouble with it. I only type in one URL before sending an email, but for some reason, the posting shows double URL's. Dear Genie Friends, Does anyone live in Queens? Looking for an original OBIT in a newspaper for our dear genie buddy, Frank DILLMAN. Frank has all of the online info about the recent death of Con Ed employee George DILLMAN... all over NYC newspapers. Frank is a former NYer and lived near Hicksville, LI. Frank is looking for someone who might have an original obit, cut from a newspaper, to send to him. If anyone has a family member who saves newspapers in a stack for recycling day, George DILLMAN died on October 9th and was buried today Oct 14th. The funeral Mass was at Trinity Roman Catholic Church in Whitestone, Queens; with a fire department burial in Hicksville, LI. If anyone has it, or any ideas how to get it, please contact me offlist. I'm interested in the Caraher and Gahagen names listed in your Roll Call. I have Ellen Carraher born about 1855 in Ireland to Michael Carraher and Katherine Haughey. Ellen may have had a sister Alice. Ellen married Matthew Geoghan in NYC about 1885. Matthew was born 1860-1864 in Co. Westmeath Ireland and died 1892 in Manhattan. Matthew and Ellen's 1st known child was Catherine born Manhattan 1887, followed by Joseph 1889 and John 1891. John was my grandfather. Cleaning out and catching up on back digests. Do you have Meehan ancestors, or any earlier Meehan information than the 1920s records posted to the Brooklyn list? I have a Catherine Meehan, born Ireland (possibly Co. Tyrone) about 1830, married about 1855 in NYC to Patrick Coyle, died Brooklyn 1903, buried in Calvary Cemetery. I've found quite a bit about Catherine and Patrick's family through the 1860-1900 censuses and NYC/Brooklyn vital records. She bore 16 children; I've identified 10 of them born about 1856-1878. All I know of the Meehan family is from Catherine's death certificate which gave her father as Peter Meehan, her mother as Mary with no surname. I'd love to discover more about her origins in Ireland and any other family members who emigrated to NYC or elsewhere. In looking at a FHL film (Vital Records of Newtown Queens) for something else I saw the following: Certificate # 2012 / dated 27 January 1888 Marquart, Magdalena / female b. Middle Village Mother: Emma Baum age 21 b. Ridgewood Father: Frederick Marquart / Florist / age 24 / b. Germany ________________________________ Certificate # 2438 / dated 11 March 1890 Marquardt, Maria / female b. Middle Village / Mother: Emma Baum age 22 b. Ridgewood Father: Frederick Marquardt / Florist / age 25 / b. Germany I did not see any other Marquart names in what I have looked at so far. I recall someone posting something about Emma Baum Marquart. I hope this may help you. I also see on ancestry ( don't know if this was you) there are a lot of pictures and information on Emma Baum Marquart. She died in 1923 per the site so there should be a death certificate for her. It may help you find her family. Good luck. Kelly Jane O'Hara, Greer, SC **************New MapQuest Local shows what's happening at your destination. Dining, Movies, Events, News & more.
