    3. Tina, I am not able to answer your directory question offhand so will leave that to others. However, I have had similar problems to yours and have some other ideas. Have you used the Brooklyn Genealogy Information site? It answers many of the questions asked on this listserve. http://www.bklyn-genealogy-info.com/ You are unable to find the family on the 1920 census, right? Have you tried searches using any Nicholas of x age born Italy (or wherever). I found a widow, Magdalena Smith, in Brooklyn 1910, finally, listed as Grace and her daughter Mildred as Mamie. Her other two children, George and Kate, had such common names that they were useless in the search. I just had to try all kinds of searches, including going to a street that had appeared on other documents. I assume the death certificate in 1923 is from Brooklyn. Another good piece of news: the new grant to produce an index to Brooklyn brides between 1910 and 1930 (the only vitals without an index) will help both of us. Elizabeth >Date: Sat, 25 Oct 2008 11:00:09 -0700 From: warrior rabbit <rabbit@san.rr.com> Subject: [BKLYN] brooklyn directories? To: NYBROOKLYN@rootsweb.com I have a relative, Nicholas (Nicolo) Ferlazzo that was in Brooklyn basically from his arrival in 1898 to his death in 1923. I have him on the 1910 census and his death certificate; nothing in between. According to the 1910 census, he had a wife, Maria, and at least 7 kids. Most of them were girls, so they are lost to marriage. Can't find the one son after that, either. I know some phone/city directories for Brooklyn were discontinued during these crucial (for me) years, but when do they pick up again? Would I be able to find this family in the 1910s or 1920s at all? More importantly, does anyone have access to them? Thanks, Tina

Technically, there is a sliding period of 50 years back from the present, so up to 1958 should be available (for the $15 fee). Allen **************Play online games for FREE at Games.com! In a census at Family Search. I am ususally pretty good at enlarging things so I can read them. For the life of me I cannot get this page to a readable status. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong or give me a clue. Pat CA -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Pat, I recently went to the new version of Family Tree Maker, I believe that they have joined up with Anc.com. When I went to the census program in Anc.com, which I have used extensively in the past several years with excellent results, I could still bring up the various pages of the census, which were not exactly in the same space on the page, but could not bring it up to print correctly on the page. The page came up mostly on the Left side with about a 3 inch blank space remaining on the right side of the page. I could tell also that some of the typed info on the Left side was cut off as well. It was very frustrating. After a rather lengthy phone conversation with one of the "reps", he said that he couldn't understand why my page was coming up the way it was, he was stumped! Not only that, he finally told me that maybe I should get a computer technician to come in and see if he could remedy the problem. He said he had never had anyone tell him about this problem and didn't know how to fix it. On his end he said the page was displaying properly. Well, I am still very upset and disappointed with their tech support. I really don't quite know what to do about it. Just wanted to email the list and see if anyone else has had this problem. Joy E. My emigrating great grandfather, Cornelius McNamara, from Limerick was commonly known as "Con" Mack. Cornelius was in common use in Limerick and Clare. The name is prominent in my family, including my grandfather, father, brother, son and is my middle name. A female first cousin was named Cornelia. 1. Re: [BKLYN] LDS records ?
    2. warrior rabbit
    3. I would say order the films. I could be wrong, but I think what shows up in family search is merely what other people have found and deemed relevant to their tree, and then uploaded. It represents just a fraction of the records they've filmed. For instance, if I search on all of my surnames, I find only a NYC marriage record for my great great uncle. (Which was a NYC municipal record, anyhow, not an LDS filmed record.) But in renting the appropriate films, I've found birth and marriage records for him, his siblings, his parents, and so on. I can't speak to the other parts, but "ancestral file" is one component of the search, and they describe it as: "Ancestral File is a collection of genealogical information taken from Pedigree Charts and Family Group Records submitted to the Family History Department since 1978. The information has not been verified against any official records. Since the information in Ancestral File is contributed, it is the responsibility of those who use the file to verify its accuracy." 1. [BKLYN] LDS records ?
    2. Are all the records that the LDS library have appear on Family Search or do I need to rent the record and search myself. My ancestor Margaret TAFFNER appears in Family Search as being born in Morbach Prussia. None of her brothers, sisters or parents appear on Family Search. Is there a chance they will appear on the Catholic records for that town. Anna **************BUY Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull on DVD today!
