Hi Russ, I have used these two sites looking for classmates for a high school reunion. I think these sites will help you find the Caverley's in the NYC area. I would suggest that you also try Michigan. Hey, ya neva know! My fingers are crossed - good luck! Intelius will give you: name, age, places they have lived, and relatives names (sometimes even parents, ex-spouses, etc.) PART OF ORIGINAL POSTING: From: Russ Wood <woodrj@charter.net> Subject: [BKLYN] CAVERLEY I am trying to locate any Caverley's I can find who may have descended from that family. St. Paul's church (once known as "the Irish parish") is still an active church in Brooklyn (the parish has merged with several others and has been renamed), and they continue to hold the old baptism records. You can write them at: ST PETER ST PAUL OUR LADY OF PILAR. Telephone: (718) 624-3425. Address: 234 Congress St Brooklyn NY 11201-6416 Many years ago when I wrote to get the baptism record of my greatgrandfather I enclosed a $10 donation. They will probably be overwhelmed with requests now that ancestry.com has put the index online. **************Plan your next getaway with AOL Travel. Check out Today's Hot 5 Travel Deals! I am researching my Caverley ancestors. They came to the USA from Ireland in the 1840s. They were living in Brooklyn from 1853 and I believe some of their descendants may still be living in or close to the areas near metro NYC. I have been unable to locate anyone or any family who is listed in any phonebook in the area. I did find one but the phone number was unlisted. I descend from Richard and Mary Caverley (my gggrandparents) their son James Caverley (born 1852) was my Greatgrandfather. Both Richard and his son James worked in Brooklyn as Hatters. Sometime after 1885, James left and moved to Michigan where he died. I am trying to locate any Caverley's I can find who may have descended from that family. Can anyone help with suggestions of how I might locate anyone with the name Caverley or Caverly currently living in or near any of the Boroughs of NYC? Thanks. Russ Wood
Hi all: Thanks to Ancestry.com's new "Brooklyn, NY Catholic Church Baptism Records 1837-1900" index, I've learned?that several of my great-grandfather's sons were baptised in St. Paul's in the late 1890's.? My question is, who holds the records for St. Paul's and what is the protocol for asking for copies?? Should I send a donation and, if yes, for how much, and to whom such a request be addressed???? This is my "brick wall" ancestor, and I've been trying in vain for years to find?out precisey where in Northern Ireland my immigrant ancestor came from.? I'm hoping a town or county wil be listed on the baptismal records (it certainly wasn't on his marriage or death certificate, naturalization, or other records.) Any advice/suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Julie Parks

New York's native son, Studs Terkel, passed away this morning. I will always treasure how he captured the lives of everyday Americans as they told of their lives during the Great American Depression. Tina, Have you checked the _www.stevemorse.org_ (http://www.stevemorse.org) site for BMD's for all of the family? The last three daughters on the 1910 census were born in NY. I will send you what I have found for census records. Please check your spam folder so that you don't delete them. Thanks. Kathleen~CT. Date: Sat, 25 Oct 2008 11:00:09 -0700 From: warrior rabbit <rabbit@san.rr.com> Subject: [BKLYN] brooklyn directories? To: NYBROOKLYN@rootsweb.com I have a relative, Nicholas (Nicolo) Ferlazzo that was in Brooklyn basically from his arrival in 1898 to his death in 1923. I have him on the 1910 census and his death certificate; nothing in between. According to the 1910 census, he had a wife, Maria, and at least 7 kids. Most of them were girls, so they are lost to marriage. Can't find the one son after that, either. I know some city directories for Brooklyn were discontinued during these crucial (for me) years, but when do they pick up again? Would I be able to find this family in the 1910s or 1920s at all? More importantly, does anyone have access to them? Thanks, Tina **************Play online games for FREE at Games.com! This is the link I thought I provided: http://www.nyc.gov/html/records/html/vitalrecords/home.shtml It will show where to obtain vital records for all years. If you don't want to waste your money on a "maybe," hire a genealogist who can view the microfilms, and compare parents' names, so you acquire the correct certificate. They will often charge a flat rate for this service. Even genealogists hire genealogists. When you have grown children, and some still living at home, you should check the same ED as the parent/s. How do you do this when you only know a first name? Look through the entire ED. Track any woman who appears to be the right age, and name. Of ten children, six females, I was able to find 5 in the family this way. Once you find one female, track her will/letter of administration, obit. This will lead to finding the others by married names. Time consuming---yes.
