    1. [BKLYN] REID Family Photograph
    2. Shelley Cardiel
    3. I've "rescued" an old photograph of Samuel L. REID which was taken at the Dana Studio in Brooklyn, New York. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1880's with Samuel likely in his 40's at the time it was taken. I'm hoping to locate someone from his family so that this wonderful old photograph can be returned to the care of his family. If you are a member of his family, or you know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley

    1. [BKLYN] This Veterans' Day
    2. Thank you to all our veterans, living, beloved, and ancestral for their personal sacrifices that insured the freedoms that we enjoy today. God bless all, and the American families that did without you, and the lives they knew. Thank you to the women who kept the homefires burning: raised the children, worked the factories, hung stars of hope in their windows, lit candles, invented recipes from rationed goods, did without, prayed novenas for the nameless, and walked behind hearses to bury their dead, if remains ever came home to the USA. I will always remember our veterans, and mine back to the Revolutionary War. Thank you Korean War vets; perhaps one day that war will be officially over. Welcome HOME to our Viet Nam vets whether you served by enlistment or draft in this "military action." May you know in your hearts that the protesters were against war, but for getting each of you safely home. Thank you to those who fight and serve at home and in foreign lands now, and to your families. Your sacrifices and worries are beyond my imagination. And, thanks to "The Colonel." I miss you ever day, Dad, especially on this first Veterans' Day since you died. I only regret that you lived for sixty years before you learned from a VN Vet that you battled PTSD your entire adult life. Maybe this will help someone else. If you think Veterans Day is not a genealogical topic...just hit delete. @ 2008 Barb, N of NYC ************** AOL Search: Your one stop for directions, recipes and all other Holiday needs. 3.  Thanks. I should have gone on to say that I am no relation (as far as I know) because I don't know how to trace to his family, if I indeed am related to him. My husband's grandmother had two boys named exactly the same (the first boy died at age 6 mos) and her mother had three boys with the same name (the first and second sons died before the age of one).  Evidently this was common in naming practices. 2. St. Paul's does not hold all Catholic records for Brooklyn (that would be voluminous!). The parish covered by its records is relatively small, but it located in the area in which many Irish immigrants settled in the 1840's and 1850's, so it is a goldmine for genealogical information from that time. **************Plan your next getaway with AOL Travel. About Brooklyn, New York Catholic Church Baptism Records, 1837-1900 This database contains baptismal records from St. Paul’s parish in Brooklyn, New York from 1837-1900. Information listed in this database includes: name of individual baptized, baptismal date, birth date, Parents' names, and names of godparents. For more information about this database, _click here._ (javascript:ShowLongDesc();) St. Paul’s church was founded in 1836 in Brooklyn, New York. It was known as the “Irish Parish” because it served as the focal point for Irish immigrants in Brooklyn during the Great Irish Famine of 1845-1851. This database contains baptismal records from St. Paul’s parish from 1837-1900. The city of Brooklyn did not require the reporting of births until 1866. Baptisms were generally performed within days of children’s births. Because of this, baptismal records can often be used in place of birth records when birth records are either unavailable or non-existent. Information listed in this database includes: * Name of individual baptized * Baptismal date * Parents’ names * Birth date * Names of godparents **************Plan your next getaway with AOL Travel.
