    3. Looking for Avrum Chaim and Chayeh Henya Meshaloff in Brooklyn in 1925 or 1926. Avrum died 27 Nov 1927 and is buried at Montefiore Cemetery, Queens, NY. I think Chayeh died after 1930. Avrum was born 1849 in Slutsk, Poland, now Belarus. Chayeh was born 1857 in Ekatrinislav, now Dnepropetrovsk (spelling?) Ukraine. Ruth Schneider

    3. Rebecca Further to my message re: Robert AS Pittman, there is a death certificate on file via Italian Genealogy Group web site which lists the following: Pettman, Robert A.J. age 59 DoD, Jan 31 1872, Cert # 1019, Kings County. Note, birth date would be 1813, the date for your ancestor. If you contact the Municipal Archives of the City of NY, either by mail or on-line, you can order a certificate. Although the spelling is off, it surely is worth a look. The death cert should tell you the place of burial. BTW, 69 Boadway is right near S. 6th. Sheila Santa Barbara CA

    3. I am new to the list and do not know Brooklyn sources. Sea Captain Robert Algernon Sidney Pittman led a pretty exciting life and career, but dies in obscurity. I find him in the 1850 US census in Ward 13, Kings Co with wife, children and probably son Robert following in his father's footsteps as a mariner. In 1852 Capt R A S Pittman puts down a mutiny on board ship in the passage from Liverpool to New York by shooting the instigator dead, an episode that makes the NY and London papers. In the 1859 Brooklyn City Directory, p 320, Pittman, Robert A S shipmaster, h. 94 S. 6th Pittman, Robert S B shipmaster, h. 94 S. 6th He is not on the US census in 1860. He takes his family to live in Liverpool in 1862 for the duration of the Civil War. By 1870, he is back in Ward 13, Kings Co, NY with his second wife Ada and son Malcolmson. Then he disappears. His widow and son are back in VA by 1880. Where did he live in 1875? When did he die and where is he buried? Does he have any descendents by his first marriage to his New York born wife Sarah? I would like to visit his home if still standing and his grave. Thanks for any help.

    1. [BKLYN] 1875 Kings Co. Census records
    2. Hi All, I am getting close to the halfway mark, while perusing the 1875 State Census records for Kings Co I have been trying to also use the Ward indexes but can get thoroughly confused. The earliest address that I have for my ancestor, Samuel Rawlins, is in the 500 block of Fulton St. This, however, was in 1876/77. My ancestor moved around a lot. He also traveled in and out of the country for several years. I do know that by 1875, he was living with wife Maria and two small daughters. They would have been in town, even if he wasn't . I wonder how an online index is progressing? I get nervous that I may miss something by accident or misunderstand one of the census taker's handwriting. Thanks to all. I am still soooo happy that I search these records from home! Bev W

Anyone out there with more info > on this and who has more skills than I do about this sort of thing??? I had this problem with my own blog, yesterday, so what I did was searched for my blog name and went through the search engine. That got me to my blog just fine. I just tried that with the Fulton history website and also got right through. I have no idea why this is, but the search engine work around seems to solve the problem. Probably I should have this computer's little innards purged of all evil, but the thing is so old I hesitate to spend the money. It is nearing that stage of computer life which corresponds, in car life, to keeping the gas tank only half full because you aren't sure when something major is going to blow and you don't want to have to junk it with a tank full of gas... 2. "Hello , I am new to the list and am hoping I can get some suggestions on finding my vary high brick wall - John Reynolds." Since you mention you are new to the list I am going to point out a few resources I've gotten from the list in the past that may help. The first is https://Italiangen.org This is a website that has indexes online for a number of record sets pertaining to NYC. If you find what seems to be your record you can order it from the LDS or directly from NYC. You may find a marriage here, or you may find children who died young that you never knew of, among other things. Another is https://Stevemorse.org This is a website through which you can search information on other websites, including Italiangen and Ancestry. These search engines are marvelous and well worth using. A third is https://Fultonhistory.org This is a free website with literally millions of pages of newspapers from NYS. If you read the FAQ it will tell you how to search particular titles for particular dates, or you can just put what you want in the search box and see what you get. For some reason, addresses do very well at this site. I have gotten things for my relatives by putting in their addresses that did not come up when I put in names that were in the article. I have no idea why. So if you have that address, you might as well try. While not as much went into the papers about people in the big cities as went in about the small towns (Where you can read extensively of who went to visit who and what the decorations were at Mrs. Whatsit's card party) things still do pop up. I've gotten info on my mother's Irish relatives from obituaries and short articles. As I type these websites they do not seem to be coming up as links - I have no idea why. If you put the names of the sites in a search engine I am sure you will get accurate links to take you to them if I have somehow done something technically wrong. Best of luck! Theresa > >

    2. JODY DYMOND
    3. Hello , I am new to the list and am hoping I can get some suggestions on finding my vary high brick wall - John Reynolds. Please excuse the long email but I have done a lot of searching for this elusive man. John was born in England 1 dec 1837 but I have no idea where. I cant find his birth place as I have no idea who his parents were. I tend to think it 'may be' in the Yorkshire area where his wife was born. Gertrude Pritchard was born 1854 in Up Norwood, Croydon, Yorkshire, she was a teacher. I have all of Gertrudes family information. John immigrated to USA in 1860-68 from England. He was 23 at the time and Gertrude immigrated in 1888 according to 1900 US Census she was 34. I cannot find him migrating to USA. I found my John Reynolds in the Lain Brooklyn City Directory (FHC film #1376610) 1897-98 it had John Reynolds 'nurse' h 1601 Atlantic av - - that is the address that was on his daughter Winnifred`s birth certificate, she was born 1897 in Brooklyn.. I can find no birth or marriage for John in England or in USA. My Uncle said that he had a marriage date for John - 30 June 1876 in the family bible - I can find no marriage under that date. His birth date was correct though. The next time I have found John (a farmer) is on the 1900 census in Oyster Bay, Nassau, NY with his family. I have not found any trace of him other than that. I cant even find the children in school and have checked census for US & England. I have all the information on their girls but not much on Richard. On the 1900 US Census it also states that John & Gertrude married 11 years which makes it abt 1889 ? I have searched every record I can think of and also marriages and can find noting for either date. Their children - Richard b: 29 apr, 1891 New York ( Census says he was born New York). Winnifred b: 27 jun, 1897 Brooklyn, NY May b: 29 aug, 1899 Brooklyn, NY On the 1901 England Census Gertrude was at her parents house with May. Where was hubby John, Richard and Winnifred ? Kids probably in school, but I have searched and can find no signs of them. . In 1901 I found her in the UK incoming passenger list with May and Winifred leaving Philadelphia, PA going to Liverpool, England I have also checked Pennsylvania records for John with no luck. I was thinking that maybe John had been married before Gertrude ? As he was in the USA for 40 years and she was only there for 12 according to 1900 USA census. I found Gertrude again in Stratford, Ontario, Canada with her children. She is buried in Avondale Cemetery in Canada and Johns name is on the stone but the cemetery says he is not buried there ? The cemetery says they are unable to find a death date for John. I lost him between the 1900 census and when he migrated to Stratford, Perth County, Ontario, Canada. First signs I had of Gertrude and her girls in Canada was in the 1911 Ontario, Canada census as a widow where it says she immigrated in 1887. In the Stratford 1916 city directory there is Gertrude and two daughters living together I have searched directories, census, ships lists, births, deathss, marriages .... " Please ", can someone steer me in the right direction as where to go what can I do next ? Am I missing something - besides John ;-) ? Thankyou kindly for any suggestions or assistance, much appreciated. Joanne

    3. I've "rescued" two old photographs of Lena B. JOYCE which were both taken at studios in Olneyville, Rhode Island. The first is dated 1890 and indicates that Lena is 9 years old at the time it was taken. The second photograph is dated 1894 and indicates that Lena is 12 years old at the time. Based on limited research I was able to locate the following information regarding Lena and her family: Lena Belle JOYCE was b. Sept 1882 in CT to parents Isabella or Isabel Louise ROSSITER (b. 1861 in New London, CT) and Thomas F. JOYCE (b. Dec 1860 in Wales to parents George H. & Margaret JOYCE). Lena was one of two children born to this couple including a brother, Russell T. JOYCE born 1896 in Providence, RI. Lena married Walter Henry PICKERING on 5 Apr 1904 in RI and died 10 Nov 1948 in Cranston, RI. Census records provide the following: 1885 census of Providence, RI: Lena B. JOYCE, age 3 years 1900 census of Providence, RI: Thomas F. JOYCE, age 44, born Dec 1855, married 24 years, born Wales, parents born Ireland, a Business Manager Isabel L.
