Hi allCan someone advise me what information I might find on an1895 Brooklyn marriage application and certificate. Also, what did it take to get a divorce in 1894/1895? Apparently , the bride married a gentleman in Manhattan in January 1894 and subsequently married my grandfather in November 1895.Sounds like she was a pretty fast worker. I was under the impression thatit was very difficult and time consuming to get a divorce in New YorkShirley in San Diego ____________________________________________________________ 57-Year-Old Woman Look 27 Local woman discovers wrinkle secret that has doctors angry. http://thirdpartyoffers.juno.com/TGL3131/4fb979a5de85914ed102st02vuc

Rita, All of my Norwegian relatives are buried at Greenwood Cemetery. Their interments are searchable and online at: http://www.green-wood.com/burial_results/index.php?action=S Hope this helps. Betty Noonan
Hi, Does anyone know where Norwegian Lutheran's would be buried in the 1880's? My great grandparents came over in 1870 and died in 1888. I don't know where to look for their graves. Anyone out there to help? Thank you, Rita
My great grandmother, Mary Ann Chadwick, was born at Liscard, Cheshire, England in 1866. I have good information about her and her brothers and sisters with one exception. That is her brother, Thomas Chadwick, born Liscard in 1864. I see him in the 1871 and 1881 census of England. After that he disappears from the records; that is, until now. I have found who I believe is him in the USA census living with his family in Brooklyn. In the 1900 he is at 18 Fourth Place, in 1910 at 477 Clinton Drive, in 1920 at 393 Eighth Street and in 1930 at 29 Eighth Street. Thomas was a marine plumber. His family appears to be his wife Margaret nee Gordon born England in 1869 and children, all born in New York, Ethel 1890, Emily 1892, Margaret 1893, Josephine b 1898. There is also William R b 1915 mentioned as a son. I don't know if he really is a very late addition to the family or perhaps a grandson or other relative. Does anyone have this family in their tree? I received this from our library administrator and thought it might be helpful for others doing NY research: Dear Genealogist, Did you have an ancestor living in New York, NY at the time of the 1940 census? If so, you need to visit the following link: http://directme.nypl.org/ This is a web site created by the NY Public Library. It will help you to identify the Enumeration District in which the address is located. What they have done is to digitize the 1940 phone book. There is a separate phone book for each borough. You find the name in the phone book and when you click on the name it links you to the next screen where you enter the street address shown in the phone book. This is necessary because most of the street names were abbreviated in the phone book. This will automatically pull in the Steve Morse web site where you will see a map with the location. Identify the cross or back streets shown on the map and you will usually reduce the number of EDs down to one ED. Once you select an ED, you are then taken to the National Archives web site to view the census schedules. While this system does not provide an index to the specific page where the individual is listed, it will help you to identify the ED where the address will be found. One problem with this system is that it works better with browsers such as Firefox, Google Chrome, Safari and Opera rather than Internet Explorer. I have exchanged a number of e-mails with the staff of the NYPL regarding Internet Explorer. The NYPL was eventually able to get Internet Explorer version 8 to work but you may still encounter problems if you do not have the latest version 8 of Internet Explorer. I believe you will have better results with an internet browser such as Firefox, Google Chrome, Safari or Opera. When a person dies, a library closes. You want ED 24-1349. On page 16 (of 28) find 378 7th street followed by 382 7th street but I did not view all the pages. --- On Thu, 5/10/12, [email protected] <[email protected]> wrote: From: [email protected] <[email protected]> Subject: [BKLYN] 1940 census To: [email protected] Date: Thursday, May 10, 2012, 4:33 PM Hi, I am searching the 1940 census and have the 1930 census as well. Wanted to write and tell you of a researcher that has given me a lot of family info, he was extremely helpful. His name is Robert Steingraber, his email addy is [email protected] He is located somewhere in upper NY state. I had emailed him to ask if it was ok to give his name, etc. He answered me saying : Sure, that would be fine. I'm pretty good with upstate NY since I live here and know the state fairly well! I've done a lot with Kingston Co, Ulster County, Oswego and other upstate counties as well. Thanks for thinking of me! Just thought I would pass this along to any of you who might be interested. Hi Pauline, What a great site. Thank you for passing on this information. While I don't know of anyone in my families buried in any of them, I've bookmarked the site for reference. I contacted the cemetery and they told me if I could send an email they have a volunteer who will do the search for what I was seeking. Well, in less than four days I received a large white envelope from the cemetery with a letter and documentation of the burial site, with individual pages on the names of persons, where buried, date of death, funeral director, cause of death. All of that was great, but they also sent along two pages of information about an ancillary family name with summary of names from webCemeteries. Which seems to have many private cemeteries in parts of the U.S. There were 12 names with burial dates, burial number, date of burial, where it could be found and the location in the cemetery. I just googled "genealogy in Massachusetts" and a bunch of sites popped up. Try doing this for each state. Dolores In a message dated 5/6/2012 8:30:26 A.M. Eastern Daylight Time, [email protected] writes: Hi Everyone, I was wondering if anyone has been doing genealogy in MA, NJ and/or VA and Upstate NY. Although my family was very faithful to NY by always coming back, I am finding periods of times where I cannot find them and I do have some indications that they may have been in these other states or in upstate NY. Since I am unfamiliar with what is available in these other states, I was hoping someone on the lists could guide me. I tried doing a gogle search, but I haven't been very successful in finding sites like we have for NY. I am guessing I am not searching in the right places. Any help? You should be looking for block E in 24-2564B. Find 620 Marlborough in ED 24-2564B page 16. --- On Sun, 5/6/12, Susan <[email protected]> wrote: From: Susan <[email protected]> Subject: [BKLYN] 1940 Census help request To: [email protected], [email protected] Date: Sunday, May 6, 2012, 4:28 AM I have been searching for my Great-Grandparents in the 1940 census using their 1930 address: 620 Marlborough Road (Bklyn,) to no avail. I used Steve Morse's site and found 9 possible EDs that may contain that address and reviewed each one - the closest I could get was 567 Marlborough Road -- nothing higher than that! While it's possible they may have moved since 1930, it's frustrating to not even be able to locate that address at all! If anyone can help, I'd appreciate it greatly!
