Author: lrcarter985 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.newyork.counties.bronx/3550/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am researching my great grandmother and I finally found her on a Montana Federal census,it states that she does not know her age or who her parents are and that she came from the New York Foundling Asylum,and she thinks she was born in New York.I have researched and have found that the Asylum was ran by the Sisters of Charity.What I'd like to know is if someone can tell me where in New York the 1st hospitol started and where on the census it is?I believe my GGrandmother is or may be on that 1870 census for the Sisters of charity.I have searched Laura's name every which way and have found nothing before 1900.Laura's daughter my Grandmother says she was sent to Illinois,possibly on an orphan train.I do not know if Laura Ellsworth Britton is her real given name,I just know this Laura is my GGrandmother.
