    2. Kathy asked about Daitch Shopwell. I remember Daitch Shopwell very well. I believe these stores were located throughout the city. The store I remember best was on 181th Street in Upper Manhattan. It was a narrow store, always filled with customers. My family bought tub butter, pot cheese and other fine products there. Butter was stored in a refrigerator in a large block form. You would tell the clerk how much butter you wanted to purchase, and he would cut that amount from the brick. The clerks were so good at measuring from experience that they usually came within a dab of hitting the amount on the nose. If the amount cut was short, a little chip piece was added to the portion cut. This butter was fresh and was the best tasting butter you can imagine. Really miss that wonderful butter and good cheese. Unfortunately, I do not know anything of the Daitch family. Margaret
