In the 1920 census there are 2 Jacob Dippel. One is this man who is living in the Bronx and was born ca. 1858. I believe he is the one who died in 1935 at age 76. The other Jacob Dippel, who was living at 154 Eckford St., with wife Anna is her man. He was born ca. 1875, so would be about 60 in 1935. Westchester County Genealogical Society (NY) Upcoming Meeting Former WCGS president Mary Hoar will present Return of the Ring to WCGS at our next meeting on January 10, 2009. Ms. Hoar will show a documentary that aired on Ulster TV (Northern Ireland) about the true story of a young Irishman who returned the wedding ring of a World War II US airman killed in a plane crash outside of Belfast to his widow who had remarried. Mary’s cousin is the columnist who found the widow of the downed airman. Mary Hoar taught in the Yonkers Public Schools for more than 30 years in their elementary and middle schools and retired from teaching in 2002. Ms. Hoar is very active in community services such as the Mayor’s Community Relations Committee, the Red Cross, the March of Dimes, the Yonkers Historical Society and many others. Mary has recently been elected as President of the Yonkers Historical Society, an office she previously held for 5 years, and is committed to preserving the history of Yonkers. Among the many awards Mary has received for her community service are: Janet Hopkins Memorial Award for Outstanding Volunteer Service, the Untermyer Performing Arts Council Gryphon Service Award, the Key to History awarded by the Yonkers Historical Society, Jay-N-Cee of the Month, Yonkers Jay-N-Cees Distinguished Service Award, NY State Jay-N-Cees President's Award, City of Yonkers Bicentennial Award, the Key to the City of Yonkers, Westchester March of Dimes Outstanding Achievement Award, Red Cross Westchester Chapter Service Award and the March of Dimes Walkathon Committee Service Award.
