    3. "Does anyone have experience with Fort Schulyer, Bronx, NY records [later US > Merchant Marine Academy property], or records from its hospital?" Fort Schuyler is NOT the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. It is it's own separate maritime school. USMMA is across the L.I. 1. [NYBRONX] 1860s death repository
    2. I'm helping a friend locate a g-g grandfather who passed on circa 1863-1868. Last known residence 1860 Ossining, NY...Westchester County. Wife & children appear in 1870 census, wife as widown, in Brooklyn, NYC. Irish immigrant, NAME: James Mc G A N N / M'GANN/ McGAHAN Westchester has no records except his application for citizenship, that was begun. It is logical that he was a Civil War vet, but no records match him exactly. Wife did not file for benefits, although she never remarried. It is most logical that being an Irish immigrant, appropriate age, non citizen, and era missing, that he served in the Civil War, but that search seems unlikely, unless he was affiliated with the naval/marine forces. He is not buried in cemetery with wife. No Westchester County cemetery in resonable distance to where he lived in Ossining, NY has any record of his burial. Searcher is presently viewing "Bodies in Transit 1860-1870." Potential there. All ideas welcome. Does anyone have experience with Fort Schulyer, Bronx, NY records [later US Merchant Marine Academy property], or records from its hospital? Wondering where the repository is for such hospital records; could not locate on NARA NYC site. Thanks very much, Barb N or NYC ************** Great Deals on Dell 15" Laptops - Starting at $479 (http://pr.atwola.com/promoclk/100126575x1220635228x1201407499/aol?redir=http:%2F%2Fad.doub leclick.net%2Fclk%3B213153654%3B34689672%3Bo)

Author: BobNY Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.newyork.counties.bronx/3516.1.1.2.1.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: This information was gleaned from various writings of The New York Genealogical and Biographical Society. The certificate holds the information that I posted above. The license will usuually have additional information: specific birthplaces of the bride and groom-usually the town of birth-in the United States or abroad father's and mother's country of birth (for both bride and groom) bride's occupation former spouses living or dead if applicant is divorced, when and where divorce or divorces were granted ========================== But, the key difference is that the License information comes in 3 parts - - Affidavit for License to Marry - Marriage License - Marriage Certificate If the prospective bride and groom filled out the affidavit themselves, it is likely that the information is correct. The marriage certificate, on the other hand, was filled out by the person who married the couple, leaving more room for error. Author: RPokorny Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.newyork.counties.bronx/3516.1.1.2.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Bob, I forgot to add that my grandparents were married in 1915 in Indiana. I would also like to add that when I sent for my great-grandparents marriage license in Illinois (1887), the license only contained bride & groom, date of marriage, clerk's name, the Rev. who married them, and the name of the church, which happened to be the wrong church. I did not receive a certificate. So, I had to use the Chicago city directories to find out where they lived around that time, and then find out what church was nearby, hoping they attended that one. I lucked out, and rented the microfilm from the LDS, and found their church marriage record which included the parent's names. With this certificate, I also received a copy of the marriage license, which also only included names of bride & groom, date of license, and the Clerk of the Circuit Court, and person who married them. Then I also received 2 applications for marriage license, one for my granfather, and one for my grandmother, that had the parents names on them, place of birth, and where they resided. All these documents came in one package from the Clerk. So, are you trying to say that the NY marriage certificate will not hold any genealogical information? Will the license hold any information?
