Author: BobNY Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.newyork.counties.bronx/3540.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: What do you mean by "looking for?" The actual physical presence of the person? Vital records on this person? A death or interment date and/or location? Are you searching for the parents of William Benson? Is William Benson's someone's supposed parent? Was he a parent in 1948-1949? Was he born in 1948-1949? Perhaps you might want to rewrite this query with a bit more clarity as to what you know in terms of dates, places, facts, etc. and what you hope to find out. 1. Re: [NYBRONX] [BKLYN] Is it possible to obtain or find a domestic violence complaint fi...
    2. Write the police precint in which the dpmestic voilence occurred in. Hardly think and everyday occurrence such as domestic vioolence would be in any newspaper. Once again, I defer to you all, the experts with these issues of genealogy...I recently found a note from my grandfather that appears to be an account of an incident of domestic violence with his sons (and possibly implicates his wife). In the note he indicates that he has reported the incident to the police and indicates the officers badge number. This occurred in 1948 (all members of my family involved in this incident are deceased). Is there anyway to try to obtain this record? If I have the badge number of an officer, will that tell me in which precinct this report was filed? This might shed some light on why my mother was estranged from her family (and it seems they were all estranged from each other...). I appreciate any suggestions or advice you may have... **************Summer concert season is here! Find your favorite artists on tour at TourTracker.com. Author: mudcgrant Surnames: Grant, O'dea/ O'day Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.newyork.counties.bronx/3538/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi, I'm looking for information on William Henry Grant b. abt 1887 and his wife Anna O'day/O'dea b. abt 1892. According to the 1910 census they lived on East 152 Street, NY and had no children. In the 1920 census they lived on Brooks Ave. Bronx, NY with their 3 sons. One of which is my husband's father (William Joseph b. 22 Jan 1919). William and Anna divorced. I'm thinking it was before 1930 because I found a 1930 census with who could be my father-in-law as an inmate at the New York Catholic Protectory in the Bronx. I know that William remarried and lived in Brainard with his wife Eva. I have a letter from Eva that indicates that William died in 1956. Haven't found a death cert. I don't know what happened to Anna. Any information, leads, or suggest on any of these people would be appreciated. Thank You Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 1. [NYBRONX] The Life-Saving Secrets in Your Family Tree
    2. According to an article in the Thursday. June 11, The Wall Street Journal, "Heredity plays a strong role in many health problems, ranging from Alzheimer's disease to macular degeneration and immune-system disorders like Crohn's disease. Though scientists have discovered genetic markers tied to many illnesses -- and tests have been developed to determine which patients have such markers -- these currently account for only a small portion of the risk for some diseases. That's the case with maladies such as stroke, most types of epilepsy and schizophrenia." The article continues, "Many doctors say that keeping track of your family history can be a better way to gauge your risks than getting genetic tests. Family records might turn up correlations that tests can't yet fully explain." "'For most common diseases, it's more informative to work out your family history' than to get a genetic profile, says David B. Goldstein, a professor of genetics at Duke University. Among these are Type 2 diabetes and heart disease, he says." 1. [NYBRONX] Westchester County Genealogical Society (NY) Upcoming Meeting
    2. Westchester County Genealogical Society (NY) Upcoming Meeting The next meeting is this coming Saturday. Debra Braverman will present The NYC 1890 Police Census to the WGCS at our last meeting of our genealogical year on Saturday, June 13, 2009. As many of us are aware, the 1890 NYC Police Census bridges the gap between the 1880 and 1900 U.S. censuses for those having ancestors who lived in New York City during that time. Since the 1890 U.S. census has been almost entirely lost, the Police Census helps researchers track their families at the midway point between 1880 and 1900. Debra will show us how to use it. Debra is a member of several genealogical organizations such as the Association of Professional Genealogists, the Jewish Genealogical Society of New York, and the National Genealogical Society. She specializes in NYC research, heir searches and due diligence, as well as Jewish genealogy. MEETING INFO: TOPIC: NYC 1890 Police Census WHEN: Saturday, JUNE 13, 2009 @ 10 a.m. WHERE: Aldersgate Methodist Church, 600 Broadway in Dobbs Ferry (across from Mercy College on route 9) Guests are welcome. Coffee and conversation precede the meeting at 9:30 a.m. Come to the meeting!!! For information about Westchester County Genealogical Society (Westchester Connection or Surname List), visit WCGS home page -- _http://www.rootsweb.com/~nywcgs/_ (http://www.rootsweb.com/~nywcgs/) Hope to see you on Saturday!!
