Have you called them about this? Maybe your check was lost in the mail. Just a thought. I called them and was told to e-mail them for a request for a search. I never heard back from them either, but I thought I had done it wrong. It is discouraging, and I would also be quite upset if I had sent a check and had to wait this long. I guess I won't bother snail mailing them. Good luck, Dee V.

They set prices high to discourage any and all genealogical requests. If you go for it like I did, they just stonewall you anyway. They don't want to hear from you!!!Very disappointing. Original message: On February 23rd, I requested two "lot cards" from Woodlawn Cemetery at $40 each. I mailed a letter, including a check for $80.00, and a stamped-self addressed envelope. To-date, Woodlawn has not even cashed my check, let alone provide the documentation. I understand that Woodlawn Cemetery has most interment data on their own computer systems, and can quickly churn out these lot cards. (Yes, I have seen them do it - in person.) Yet, they claim they don't have enough staff to complete the requests. Am I am unreasonable to anticipate a response within 30 days? Given the steep fee they charge, I believe they should be able to somehow expedite these lot cards. Some would jump at the chance to earn the fee that Woodlawn is charging! Beverly G. Kirby-McDonough

Just thought I'd better mention that I already have the censuses for Christian Danielsen for 1910, 1920 and 1930. Some kind people have looked him up in these later censuses for me, but I really just need some help w/ his address around 1900 to try for a manual search of the right area of the Bronx census in 1900. Besides name, address, age, spouse, cause of death, parents names and country of origin are also included. I know what you mean by different spelling variations. My grandmother's maiden name was Gartleman and no one could find her birth certificate. That is until I had a go. I decided to start in the indexes with Ga and work my way down each card. Imagine my amazement and glee when I found a Florence Garthman!! When I looked at the certificate itself, I can see how easily it could have been mistyped. Don't give up. It's worth the $5.00 fee, even if it's wrong. Good luck. Maureen OConnell

My question is, if I took a shot at it and ordered them, what kind of information would they (possibly) contain? For instance, home address, parents names, informants, spouse? In one case, the surname is unique but with multiple different spelling variations, and the other is very common, so they're both difficult surnames to pin down the right people. My prospects from the death index are: Annie Grzmocinski, 69 yrs, Oct. 17, 1899 Bronx Mary Morgan, 36 yrs, Apr. 30, 1907 Bronx Jan Grzmocinski, 41 yrs, Nov 12, 1910 Bronx The only hope I have of recognizing a match is with Mary Morgan, who was born Vermont about 1860. The other two I have no idea how they might relate, but how many Gerzmokinsky/Grzmocinski/etc. people are there, even in Bronx?

John spearheads all the volunteer projects going on in NY for the advancement of Genealogy research. He has already made some great achievements. To all volunteers Look what we did! We put 1,400,000 death records on the Internet. The years that this latest searchable database cover the years 1891 to 1911. These are the difficult years to do look-ups. The microfilm has to be viewed by each month and each county. Now you can put a name in and the computer will search the entire database. New Project We are presently working on a similar project that has caused us all great difficulty. It is the New York City Bride's Index. This index is alphabetical by the first two letters of the bride's family name. Most of us give up after a few minutes with this microfilm. The New York City Municipal Archives has allowed us to have the original index cards to use for typing. We have the records for Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx. from 1871 to 1937. We will get Manhattan and Richmond after we have completed these counties. We need volunteers to help complet this most important project. If you can help us, we will make arrangements to get the cards to you to do this work at home. Contact: John Martino 631 368-8174 or [email protected]
