The following has been extracted from a posting by Mike ([email protected]) to [email protected]: LaGuardia Community College in Long Island City, Queens has placed online 2,000 of the 20,000 negatives produced by New York City Housing Authority photographers who, beginning in the early 1930's, recorded the vast destruction of poor neighborhoods that made way for hundreds of public housing project Go to: http://www.housingauthority.lagcc.cuny.edu/nycha/ And, then click on "Photographs" along the left-hand side. Thus, those of you who have been unable to obtain a picture of a house or building that no longer exists may find that picture at the above URL. Good luck. I hope this information is useful or, at least, interesting. Regards, Walter Greenspan

I was wondering if anyone visits there periodically, and can do me a favor... The person on staff there was very helpful, but because the burial was back in 1910 and the name(s) involved are complicated, the spellings, etc. were in question. I was wondering if it is possible to get a digital photo of the section book there containing the information? I don't know if there is a grave marker either, or what part of the cemetery it is in. The information is: Jan Grzmokinsky, buried Nov. 14, 1910 section 7, range 19, grave 82 Any help or suggestions are welcome. Thanks in advance. An ancestor of mine lived and died in Morrisania. When he died in 1893, invited to the funeral were relatives, friends, and "members of Morrisania Council, No. 1,014, A. L. of H." Has anyone know anything about this organization? Any ideas what the initials stand for? Thanks for any insight. jp

Surnames: GERZMOKINSKY, GEZMOCINSKI, GERMINSKI Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/JRB.2ACE/1457.1.1 Message Board Post: Well, I knew about SOME of these you've listed, but the GEZMOCINSKI variation is one I missed. Later on (daughter Mary's 1914 marriage certificate), the name is even spelled GERMINSKI, but none of those yielded any leads. First off, if Annie was related, it could possibly be as a mother of John, but I have nothing which would confirm this one way or another even if I had her death certificate. Would the certificate (1899) mention the informant's name, or possibly relation to the deceased? Of the ones you listed, there are two remote (but potential) possibilities; a son Louis was born in Sep. 30, 1899, and father John himself. If Louis was written such that it looks like Lizzie, and if he died in mid Nov (and reported Dec. 3), he could qualify for the 1m old death in 1899. Based upon my timeline, Louis died 1899-1900, and another sibling died 1898-1900. No other sibling could be 1m old and die Dec 3, 1899 (Louis was not a twin), so this is either Louis or some other family altogether. John Gerzmokinsky was in the 1910 census (Apr. 15), and is listed on daughter Mary's 1914 marriage certificate, but there is nothing there to say that he is still living! (which I had not considered before) He would have been 44 if he'd died then, not 41, but mistakes happen (and 4's can look like 1's). Both of these deaths are listed for Bronx, which is also a positive. I don't know, what do you think? Should I order up a couple death certificates? Would 1899 and 1910 certificates have an abundance of information, or just a name and date? Thanks a lot for your reply and information -- this will eventually lead somewhere useful, I'm sure...

Surnames: MORGAN, SLOAN Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/JRB.2ACE/1458 Message Board Post: I am running into a brick wall in researching my wife's ancestors located in Bronx in the early 1900s; the names Thomas MORGAN and Mary MORGAN are too common! Thomas Morgan and Mary SLOAN were born in Vermont in 1867 and 1870 respectively, married, and moved to Pennsylvania. They moved to Bronx between 1904-1909. Of the 5 (6?) children, 3 of them had moved out of the household by the 1910 census. Thomas appears to have remarried between 1904-1910; no telling if wife Mary died or they divorced. Son Harry married in 1914, but there are no traces of the rest of the family after that date. Are there directories for Bronx for the dates they might have been living there, maybe? Any sources I might consider searching? Haven't found the family in 1920 census -- they might have moved, died, ...? They may have been members of St. Pius church, where Harry was married. I have information and scans posted at the website below. Any useful information or help tips would be gladly accepted! Thanks in advance... (Even seen it listed as GERMINSKI) John Gerzmokinsky married Mary Woichouskia and moved from Pennsylvania to Bronx 1889-1895. They were born in Poland (Galicia?) and immigrated in the 1880s. I have NY birth certificates for 3 of their children (Mary 1895, Francis 1897, Louis 1899). I also have their 1900 and 1910 census pages and the 1914 marriage certificate of their daughter Mary. My question is, what other sources are available where I might find more information about them? They moved around a lot, otherwise I might try the 1905 or 1915 NY state census -- do these provide any useful information? Lastly, 4 of their children died in Bronx; I don't know exact dates (or even names in some cases), but they are between 1895-1897, 1898-1900, and 1900-1909, plus son Louis died between 1899-1900. Haven't found the family in 1920 census -- they might have moved, died, ...? They may have been members of St. Pius church, where Mary was married.
